I'm so tied of this. It's obvious that Trump is in in mental decline. He can't even hold a sentence or thought together without insane word salad. A Tesla sales pitch on the the lawn of the white house...pathetic. Biden was in decline also...a walking zombie. It's time to change the system and elect people who don't have onset dementia. Time to make a change. What say you because the future of our children are at risk. And no more foreign billionaires in charge of our lives.

I agree but until the American people force Congress to make changes based on what the people want vice party, don't expect much to change.

I agree, that's why a support a system like in the movie Midsommer, where anyone over 72 must jump off a high cliff in an attestupa ceremony. Except me of course, I'd be exempt.

Okay, I'll play. If the two you mentioned were in "decile" .... what was the cause of Kam Harris' "insane word-salads" and poor ideas? It wasn't age.

But, I agree with you in as much as I would love to see some younger, centrist leaders in DC.

I agree, for both sides. Politicians get in office and never leave and their whole existence is staying in office. I guess Washington had the inclination of term limits, but founding fathers whiffed on congress.

Kamala Harris set the bar for word salad. Trump just says goody things and changes his mind on a whim.

But point taken. We don’t send our best. We don’t even demand it.

Kamala was a last effort for the democrats against MAGA...it did not work so be it as it may. I did not like her either. Im a registered independent and Im just tired of these rich old white men dictating the future of my grandchildren...and no more foreign billionaires dictating BS when they are embraced by a senile old man....enough is enough.....gut congress and install term limits!!!

Maybe congress will enact a mandatory retirement age. For themselves.

Agree, put an age limited on holding office for all elected and appointed federal officials. Once you get to, say 70, you have to resign. This would apply to all 3 branches of government.

Based upon the link, that would impact 34 senators and 87 in the house.

I think you could allow up to age 75, if not 80. Anyone over 80 is fairly unlikely to be able to contribute at the level needed for the government to function at a high level. If you set the age barrier too low, we will get more juvenile imbeciles like Matt Gaetz and Lauren Boebert. Since a president is elected for a 4-year term, he would have to be 76 or less to run for president to avoid resigning in the middle of his term.

Kamala's career did not adequately prepare her to run for president. She jumped from being a senator to V.P. because of her gender and skin color, not her abilities as a politician. Shame on Biden for making that mistake.

Her word salads were no worse than Trump's. Trump was showing some signs of alzheimer's during the campaign. Remember, Trump got his ass handed to him by Harris during the debate. And the word salads are not an indication of her ability to govern--that's just communications. She obviously was not used to being in the spotlight. Governing involves making decisions after gathering input from experts. Trump bypasses the experts, replacing them with yes-men, who repeat whatever Trump says, no matter how ridiculously false or absurd it is.

    Why limit to old men?

Feinstein was totally demented and stayed in office, Pelosi looks like death warmed over just to name a few.

It applies to all the fossils who spend way too much time in DC.

It should I was really referring to the title of the OP.

I treat a lot of elderly and evaluate them for cognitive decline few 75 year olds that I see could manage the rigors of holding high elected office IMHO.

What rigors of holding office? You think clowns like MTG or Boebert or Gaetz work hard? There are people on capital hill that work hard (staffers and such), and maybe some Congress people/Senators do take their jobs seriously… but it’s pretty clearly “optional” for the reps themselves. Which is why an age limit is ridiculous imo. Other than the rare Feinstein type case (a disgrace) it solves nothing, and of course Feinstein was 90 so she basically served an entire career AFTER 70. Sounds like she hit the wall of cognitive decline in her mid 80’s. Ultimately it’s one of those things voters should take care of. Even if we know they often don’t, it’s still best left to voters. Term limits and financial disclosure/conflict of interest rules make more sense than arbitrary hard age limits.
