She's not 'center-right' lol, she's basically the Italian version of a National Front/UKIP person in the UK.
I wouldn't say it wields little influence but definitely less than it used to, so I think you're right about people longing for a sort of return to that or at least trying to maintain whatever influence Christianity has now. A smaller percentage of Americans identify as Christians. The "nones" are increasing. That's true. But I think many people who used to call themselves Christians were probably more culturally Christian than ardent believers. I think more people today are comfortable identifying as non believers when they might have held up appearances in the past. Christian programming is still all over the radio and tv. I see churches everywhere at least where I live. The Supreme Court is taking a turn and probably more favorable to religious/Christian arguments than any point I can remember. The vast majority of our elected leaders are still Christian or at least claim to be. But it's also true that many who identify as Christians are becoming more liberal on certain issues. So I think it's a bit of a mixed bag.
She certainly thinks she is. And for what it's worth, UKIP and National front are quite different - the NF goes further than UKIP did/does. My point was simple that immediately blur 'far-right' to fascism, so when everyone gets labelled in this way, it becomes a problem. In the same way not everyone who would like to see a fairer society is an 'ultra libbie'. We've forgotten how to disagree with each other so we villify everyone. Just because I wouldn't vote for her doesn't automatically make her vermin.
All politicians are described by our MSM as either progressive or far right. There is nothing else to them. I don't know what Fox News calls everybody because I don't watch it much.
Or perhaps center-right parties have done such a good job at mainstreaming far-right ideas, that people think they are just normal right-wing politicians if they present themselves as something other than a raving fanatic.
So was Trump... at first. But even still, there are many people on the Right that still believe that the plandemic "vaccines" as good.
I guess the whole everyone one and everything is racist except liberals is finally completely run it's course so they just use fascist instead of racist. LMAO!!
The one consolation is that Italian governments tend to be so unstable that it is likely that she will face a vote of no confidence before she completes her first term.
