And what could the 5 men who murdered him have done?

Interesting how reverends and lawyers are “shitbags” in this situation, and not the cops who committed this murder. Very interesting.

Come on, man. What do you expect law enforcement to do? Follow the law? That's crazy talk. Clearly, the guy they murdered should have been the one to fix the situation, not the trained people with badges and deadly weapons.

Rioters aren't in positions of authority, so the analogy he used was miles off the mark. It would be more akin to a child's brother punching him in the arm regardless of whether his room is clean. That occurrence has no bearing on whether the parent should reward the child for cleaning his room or punish him if he doesn't.

"But Dad, why should I clean my room when Phil is going to punch me in the arm no matter what?"

How do you think that's going over with the parent?

I am currently listening to the podcast History that doesn’t Suck. I am close to episode 100. Right now he is in the gilded age and is talking briefly on policing. Modern policing started about that time and the police were no friends of the working people. They were tools of the robber barons used to incite riots and kill strikers. I know there are good cops but there is an issue with how they are trained and used. I don’t know the answer here.

The origins of policing in the South are quite bad.

And to think, SCORPION stands for Street Crimes Operation to Restore Peace in Our Neighborhoods. Sure got that wrong.

What is the “issue with how they are trained and used”?

Exactly, they initially were used as strike breakers. All they did was make sure the robber Barrons were protected. Now they are over militarized. If you are trained to find an enemy you will find it.

I can’t say I’m surprised by some of these posts but I certainly am disgusted.

It was a really bad take there, too. Not even Tucker Carlson (well, maybe Tucker) would try to convince someone that the San Francisco and Memphis police departments conspired to release surveillance videos that run contrary to extreme right wing nonsense commentary on the same day.

and he thinks we are somehow idiotically naive for not thinking this is obvious. Truly lives in a fantasy land

Running from the police, assuming they had a legal right to detain you, is a misdemeanor. We normally don't execute people for misdemeanors in this country and that's what that video depicts, an execution.

If the police lack sufficient cause to detain you, it is perfectly legal to run away from them.

They pulled him over for no reason. No cause. At all. And came up with a bull shit excuse. There was No basis is to arrest him. He didn’t resist. He ran away when they started to threaten and treat him violently. And there is no basis for beating and kicking him while he is restrained and not rendering aid. Bad cops all the way around. Murdered. There was No excuse for meting out street justice. You do understand that even being guilty of a misdemeanor or felony is not justification for deadly force? No. I don’t think you do. Or you wouldn’t post this nonsense.

The videos and sound show what he ran. He ran to avoid what ended up happening to him
