Hopefully these scumbag cops go to prison for murder. I’m sure their #BlueLivesMatter sheep will launch a GoFundMe for their defense funds.
GC is such a good community. Seriously, everywhere else people are saying "The cops were stupid to do it in front of a skycam." Which is an asinine statement because beating someone to death is the issue, not getting caught on camera. Noone said that here. Thank you.
I worked in LE for 30 years and think every police officer should have a mandatory body cam that has to be on at all times while in uniform. I’ve witness both police and community lie about the facts. Audio and video exposes all.
We should all be grateful that no one’s saying it but don’t fool yourself, some are thinking it. There’s a subculture that likes authoritarian behavior and absolutely think cops administer needed beatdowns. If things end up badly “they shouldn’t have resisted”. I’ve seen it said here myself.
DA: 5 Memphis cops 'all responsible' for Tyre Nichols' death Five fired Memphis police officers were charged Thursday with second-degree murder and other crimes in the killing of Tyre Nichols, a Black motorist who died three days after a confrontation with the officers during a traffic stop. A grand jury handed up indictments against Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Desmond Mills, Jr., Emmitt Martin III and Justin Smith, Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy said during a news conference. The fired officers, who are all Black, each face charges of second-degree murder, aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, official misconduct and official oppression. Mulroy said although the fired officers each played different roles in the killing of Nichols, “they are all responsible.” He said police video of the traffic stop, which Nichols’ family and their lawyers say shows officers savagely beating the 29-year-old father and FedEx worker for three minutes, will be released to the public sometime after 6 p.m. on Friday.
Totally agree. Unfortunately several Florida police agencies disagree, including good ole Sheriff Grady in Polk County. In the Memphis case there seems to be video from multiple sources including officer cams. Not sure how smart it is to release the video on Friday PM before a weekend, but so far there seems to be a good deal of transparency from the police/DA/NCAAP, etc, so hopefully all goes well. Not sure that it matters, but the police chief is a black female.
Will Memphis burn tomorrow when the video is released? Even the mayor is saying the video is horrible and disgusting.
At least they’re out front on this. It appears appropriate charges have been brought against all 5. This is among the best and swiftest response I’ve seen. There’s also no racial component here just straight out good old fashion police brutality. Reason for optimism for tomorrow though I as a woke person understand the outrage.
Chief's Message - Memphis Police Department In April of 2021, Chief Davis was selected by Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland as the first female police chief for the Memphis Police Department. She was later confirmed by Memphis City Council in May and began her career as the Chief of Police for the Memphis Police Department on June 14, 2021. Chief Davis is a graduate of the 225th Session of the National FBI Academy and completed senior management training at the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) in Boston, MA. Chief Davis has experienced training opportunities abroad at the Emergency Preparedness College in York, England, and as a participant in a leadership exchange session with the Israel National Police. She is a past President of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE), and recently testified before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee on the matter of Police Reform, in the aftermath of the killing of George Floyd. She has since been featured on Good Morning America, CNN, and other networks as a subject matter expert on this important topic. She serves on the Board of Directors for the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and was appointed to North Carolina Governor, Roy Cooper’s Racial Equity in Criminal Justice Task Force.
Are you sure? Just the other day almost all of the local TH left couldn't figure out what Gatormonks post was about, it was extremely black and white to most, hell the mods even had to make a new rule for you guys to keep you from whining so much
Is Kamala Harris traveling to Memphis to diffuse tensions? She went to Monterey Park, CA to promote additional "firearm legislation". Seems she should visit Memphis to promote additional policing reforms.
I mean we can call it like it is. If it was 5 white cops who beat this man to death they’d probably be suspended with pay while the department did their trademark “internal investigation.” Anyway I’m glad this situation has been handled as well as you can hope, just have to see how the general public reacts once the vid drops.
I said it in jest, but yes there is probably quite a bit of truth to it. All cops should be charged in such obvious scenarios regardless of the racial makeup of police or victim. Doesn’t always happen as we saw in that Louisiana state trooper incident and the coverup. That one was probably the closest to this as far as being a straight up beating. No guns, just a straight up beating by a gang of thugs. I believe in that incident the police were of varied race, so their crookedness wasn’t racial. But the leadership went for the coverup regardless. With Memphis charging these guys quickly and generally seeming to handle it properly you’d think that would spare them the riots/fallout that sometimes follows police brutality, but I guess we’ll see…
Some good background reading. Memphis has generally always had a "tough on crime/law and order" approach to policing, unsurprisingly the same issues of cop burnout and retention exist there too. I suppose the main surprise in firing these cops is that the city has a tough time recruiting them, they arent easy to replace. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/a...-reduction-murder-crime-rate-policing/671877/ Is the Answer to Crime More Cops?
WRONG - In the USA one is guilty of a crime ONLY if they get caught. Morality, laws and decency don't seem to apply to the culture, just getting dragged through the media mud is what is important to avoid. Guilt and innoncence is not the issue. Killing someone? If not a rich and white victim who gives a _____.?
