Ooof - the officiating is really rough in virtually every game. I’ve tried to theorize why, and this is the best I’ve got: Maybe it’s always been pretty bad, and we didn’t know it until everything was slowed down and replayed. The game has so many damn breaks now, and each break is a accompanied by replays. For example… I didn’t see the push off yesterday, until second angle replay. I didn’t know Condon’s play was clean until slowed down and replayed. The issue with this theory, of course, is that it doesn’t explain why this year seems worse than even recent years… when replay was just as prevalent. Regardless, it isn’t exclusive to our games, though we do seem on the short-end more often than not
Referees are all over the place. Some just presume there was a foul without actually seeing it. Others see clear fouls and choose to "let them play." What really gets my goat is the way defenders are getting called for the foul when the guy with the ball is the one initiating the contact. I won't mention names (cough cough Mark Sears cough) but you know they are. At best, it should be a no-call. NCAA Zebra School really needs to focus on this.
Yep. It's sickened me this year. Too much stripe shirt egos. And I hate reviews even when they're needed. Play the effing game! While I'm ranting. I hate the bizzarre end of game foul line march that evolved a long time ago and has gotten worse. It turns a beautiful game into a putrid farce. Need a total revamp of the system.
Agreed. So tired of the guard putting his head down and plowing down the lane right into the chest of a big and getting rewarded for it. Its basically the fullback dive play up the middle except the D isn't allowed to stand its ground.
Usually when there is a "foul" on UF they don't show the replay of that. They'll show the so-called highlight play of the opposing team making a three pointer or dunk. If you aren't recording the game and have the ability to rewind and look at it yourself you don't get to see the foul replay. I wonder why that is?
All true. And charging calls are non-existent now and I think players know it so they don't really try use positional defense. Why bother if there is a 95% chance you'll get rung up? I texted my buddy, who is a big Indiana fan (they still exist!), and said the game vs Colorado was the worst officiated game I'd ever seen. His reply was that that game was unwatchable for him due to the officiating.. And he's no Gator fan!
Not on the men's side, but this is a pretty bad look for the NCAA that they couldn't figure this one out until halftime of a game. They needed to remove a ref at halftime of the women's game between NCSU and UT-Chattanooga because she has a degree from UT-Chattanooga. I don’t care about the other teams. My Gators should be playing today if not for the refs. Even in the Barstool comments section on their “article” people are saying Florida got screwed. I hope that ref who watched that push off and let it go has a stroke.
