Eh he has wins over everyone - Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Auburn, Baylor, Clemson, and Michigan. The only team he couldn’t beat was Alabama until he did it.

That still doesn't address that he's not had any divisional challengers during his tenure, and your original post was about the coaches in the SEC East, not nationwide. We'll find out Saturday if he has a real challenger this season.

He’s winning a such a clip that UF and UT would have to be coming at him with historically great teams every year to slow him down. He’s been winning the East by very comfortable margins every year. You have to give the Devil his due.

Right OP. I was just thinking yesterday that this is the toughest I've seen the East in... forever?

Weren’t SOS, Holtz, Fulmer and Richt there at the same time as well?

The best conference will attract the best coaches due to most available money, best players, best weather.......

Oh, don't think for a moment that I don't give him his due. He's done a phenomenal job, which I didn't think he would do.

2001 was rightly nasty. You had Spurrier's last team, Fulmer's last great team, Holtz's best South Carolina team, and Richt's first UGA team. But things wouldn't last.

I guess more what I'm saying is that for the first time in a long time, if not ever, the four schools other than UF and Vandy can be rationally really happy about what their teams are doing AND have an expectation it's just going to keep going well for a while. There may be other years where things have been this tough or even tougher, but you had a lot of last gasps or things were going to collapse soon.

He’s great at everything except hiring a decent OC. The guy he hired was an assistant OL coach for the Carolina Panthers and also a groomsman in his wedding.

Satterfield the OC had ties with Ruhle when he was at Temple, Baylor and then the Panthers.

Some of the position coaches has issues with the guy and now some of the offensive players are not happy.. it’s baffling to me why he hasn’t made a move on him yet.

recruiting is great.. 15th ranked so far and is ahead of Spurrier in terms of recruiting classes.

The recruits love the guy and the players do as well, but unless he dumps his buddy at OC it will be his downfall.. you’ll see in 2 weeks how bad it is.

I think he can have an 11 win season, if he has the right coaches in place.. his recruiting ability and being able to sell the program is easier then when Spurrier had it. Spurrier set the foundation for the program to be successful, it’s now up to USC to live up to the expectations Steve set. The NIL program SC is offering will be huge..

Beamer has very good special teams and hard nose defenses ( wonder who he learned that from? ) but he’s got to be able to get an offense.

Here’s my prediction…. ( if he gets the offense going). Shane Beamer will surpass Steve Spurrier in wins at SC…..

He looks like a lifer right now. If expectations don’t get too out of hand at SC, dude should be there a long time.

Well muschamp won 11 games once at UF so anything is possible I guess. The problem at usce is a lot like the problem at Auburn, you play 2 teams every year that are at their all time peaks, uga and Clemson. You're also in a division where there's UGA, everyone else, and vandy. There's not much separating that middle group of 5 teams, Tennessee is having a breakout season, could usce do that once, maybe. When would it need to happen though for Beamer to still be there? How long does usce let him win 6-7 games a year, before they move on. It seems like Spurrier created some expectations, that I'm not sure more than about 1% of the coaching candidates could reach again. I hold Spurrier in high regard as you can tell I'm sure, and I just believe he got the absolute most out of thay program for a decade. I don't hold Beamer in the same regard, I really like Frank beamer, but hes not even fair to mention in the same breathe as Spurrier.

I’m not sure about best ever, but it’s a pretty good group, with the potential to get better.

The portal and NIL are two challenges that SOS, Meyer, Fulmer, etc didn’t have to deal with in building & sustaining their programs.

Well there were only 11 schools then and no East or west divisions, but 1964 had the following: 1. Bear Bryant 2. Charlie (Mac) Mclendon 3. Ray Graves 4. Vince Dooley 5. Ralph (Shug) Jordan 6. John Vaught 7. Doug Dickey (Tn). I know not many are not Doug Dickey fans but he was pretty successful at Tennessee. The rest are Hall of Fame coaches… at least in the SEC, most on the National level.

With his age and energy, I can see him being there for a while. 7-9 wins a year with an occasional 11 win season will keep him there for awhile.

It gets scarier when we also look at the coaches in the SEC West. Dumbo can recruit and TAM does have the resources to do it. Nick Satan has a proven record of Natties. Brian Kelly is doing well at LSU too.
