Where a collegiate QB could throw the same number of TD’s as interceptions and the team have a successful season?
Hoping Mertz will thrive in Gainesville. But just wondering what everyone thinks.

Maybe if you have 3 RBs at 1000, a top 5 D and Killa special teams.

And consider successful 6-5 and play in a G-5 conference.

Of course he will do great with our very experienced offensive line and gifted receivers

I believe one of Tom Osborne’s quarterbacks at Nebraska did that. I want to say he had a couple more touchdowns in interceptions, but it was really close, and he won the Heisman before getting waxed by Miami.

I looked it up, it was Eric Crouch. I remember that was one of the dumbest Heisman speeches of all time.

I expect Mertz to perform better here at UF.

I’m cautiously optimistic as well. Though, I do worry about the speed of the defenses in this conference catching him by surprise. It’s going to feel like he’s going up against OSU & Michigan every weekend. Hope he’s ready.

    OR

Mertz will have twice as many TD's as Int's!

    Or

Maybe even 3x as many TD's as Int's!!!

I still get pissed when I'm reminded of Crouch winning the Heisman over Rex.

Back in the day it happened more, Spurrier threw 36 TD vs 31 Picks in college, NFL HOF guys like Namath and Bradshaw tossed tons of picks.

Guessing the passing games being less complex didn’t help

Absolutely, if after every interception the other team than fumbles the ball on the return and then it is picked up by the offense and returned for a touchdown...it could work.

Of course, Crouch also gained over 1100 yards rushing with 18 touchdowns for a team that was undefeated in the regular season. Folks here actually think Crouch was measured by his passing numbers?

No, but it is a scenario where the int to td ratio works for a successful season…

Wayne’s stats were held down by Charlie Pell’s run heavy offense.

Wayne was a great athlete, playing & starring in football & basketball for the Lakeland Dreadnaughts. He won the QB competition after Coach Pell signed the top 4 QBs in the state.

An injury to Bob Hewko forced him to start in 1980 as a true freshman over Dale Dorminey, Roger Sibbald, & Mark Massey.

He is a good friend & is a very successful State Farm agent. Great human being along the lines of Tim & Danny.
