Both Ohio State and Seton Hall are ahead of us in Sagarin (which is obviously very inaccurate this early.)

My info is really old on fishing spots. Like 55 years old.

Back when the bridge over Big Carlos Pass was first built the fishing there when the tide was running out of Estero Bay was great. That was back in the mid 1960's. Lots of sheepsheads near the pilings and snook feeding a few feet off the bottom on shrimp. Occasional wahoos as well.

And the health of Estero Bay is not the same now so it won't be bringing a lot of stuff for big fish to feed on with the tide running out. I am guess the fishing there is not as good as it once was.

We also would rent a boat and fish the mangrove margins in Estero Bay for mangrove snapper way back then. Small but delicious fish and we could catch a lot. We would collect small crabs for bait on beaches south of Estero Island. Got an occasional redfish and back then it was not considered as a desirable fish so no limits on it. We would keep a few for fish stews.

I also had two great days fishing the pier in the Ding Darling sanctuary on Sanibel back in those days. There was a run of Spanish mackerel where they would just bite on a shiny hook and every cast got a strike. Given that it was a wooden structure and storms do go through I have no idea if it still exists. IIRC it was not far from the lighthouse.

Back in the day there were draw bridges onto Estero Island and Pine Island that were great for snook fishing. I know that the draw bridge onto Estero Island was replaced with a high bridge, but I don't know about the bridge to Pine Island.

Probably not really any good info for you. Way back then you could take a half-day party boat and catch more grouper than you could use and give most of it away to somebody that would clean your fish that you wanted for you. Those days are long gone.

Added in edit: I also use to fish from the shore under the Big Carlos Pass bridge for flounder with good success, but this was LONG ago.
