I would say this is more hyperbole but instead it's just plain ridiculous. Wittingham is beloved in Utah and Coach Napier won't even be on a hot seat much less a "scorching hot seat" no matter the results of game 1 in Year 2.
I don't know, taking off my gator goggles, I see 1 guarantee win in the SEC next year - Mizzou. I can't imagine we go into Utah and get a win in game 1. Not to mention its a thursday night game.... we all know what happened to the gators on its last time playing on a Thursday night
Mizzou hasn’t been a guarantee in tge past. We better play hard or it could get really ugly next year. AR wasn’t great but it could be much worse behind center this year. Mertz or Miller may do ok though, who knows.
Miami. 2024 ... not 2023. (re-read the post) Miami comes to Gainesville for the season opener. Yes, the losing coach will be on the hot seat unless both teams show significant improvement in 2023 and 2024 is a slugfest and a close game. I think we win 6-8 games in 2023 setting up the big year in 2024. Lose to Miami and that seat is going to be uncomfortable.
Hi Skink. I agree with you. The only question mark for me about coach and his staff, is will they be able to coach great talent at a championship level. That has not been determined yet because the pieces are not in place. As stated previously I think 23 will be rough, 24 should see a significant turn for the better and 25 should see UF in a position to compete for SEC East and / or SEC titles. My anticipated timeline of course, just an opinion. 2nd chance transfers, and a ton of youth, such as UF has this year, does not inspire great confidence, especially in the rugged SEC. I would love to be wrong but I don't see any quick miracles here. Recapture Florida recruiting, capture a hefty % of top 50 Florida kids, and lets see how Napier will coach em up. I would like to see UF compete against UGA and BAMA with equal talent, see if he can turn the worm.
If Napier wins only 6 in 2023 he enters 2024 with his seat at thermonuclear hot. You will not be able to quiet down the BullGators with back to back 6-7 seasons. If he wins 7 every single play will be fine-tooth comb analyzed. If he wins 8 he comfortably cruises into year 3.
Pretty much how I see it too. We could hope for a decent season this year but it unrealistic.I just want to see improvement.
let’s drag this post back to its origin - is fan apathy setting in? post-Orange & Blue Game answer: YES! now the narrative switches, GC published a mailbag piece today about how Billy Napier “doesn’t care about” the game or about the fan perception of the game, which has been overwhelmingly (and virtually uniformly) negative. when does this stop looking like a death spiral? when is the coach going to publicly acknowledge fans and do literally anything to get them back on his side? Napier closed the stadium all season, which alienated all Gainesville-based fans because only the paranoid loser coaches have done that in our history and we can see the bad pattern emerging. then every Saturday, anyone who watched the games saw a guy who was way out of his station making tons of clock-management and gameplay errors - all without an OC or Special Teams coach. so now we have a proven paranoid control freak with the worst SEC record any modern Gator coach has ever had. the better question is when does fan apathy equal a coaching death spiral?
You apparently don’t have the stomach for a rebuild. So a good idea for you, should probably be to just sit this one out. Take a break for a year or 2 and take up fishing …or something.
Everyone knows this is a rebuild. We do not expect championships or NYD bowls in 2023. We also don’t expect to look like a hot, disorganized mess. Napier needs to begin to show improvement, and not just in the W-L record. UF is not a place for patience, and that is something both Napier and Stricklin knew when they signed their contracts.
“Let’s drag this back to bashing our head coach again”. You need to go back to your own team’s message board
Those dumbasses in Tallahassee were calling for Norvell’s head. Imagine where they would be had they listen to the fans.
One of the most annoying things about the football and basketball boards during the off season is reading ridiculous proclamations in regards to wins, championships and the illusionary Gator Standard and tolerance in regards to the latter. I'd rank it up there with the loud mouth sitting behind you at the movies or a concert that think everyone else cares to hear them. One more reason to love Gator sports - on top of all of the other changes.
