Is the iron dome going to shoot down cheaply manufactured goods?

If we had a missile shield up 25 years ago, (plus the fact we produce all the oil we need now) we wouldn't have been in any of those wars. We would have saved trillions of dollars, not to mention our kids who came home without limbs, when they came home at all.

Never forget that the $1 trillion price tag was "too expensive" for a fully capable missle shield after the Cold War ended.

We could have thumbed our noses at the Middle East and gone about our business.

There isn’t a missile shield that could effectively stop a full icbm attack over the US because it’s not possible. Not because lack of will or investment.

We do have a system or “shield” in place that will attempt to stop a very limited icbm attack.

Biden is just fulfilling trump’s dream as he never seemed to get around to it.

Biden should one up him: I will build a moat.. a great moat around our nation between us and our enemies with trillions of gallons of water.

Me, I'm for the Iron Pyramid, its even better than an Iron Dome. Iron Dome supporters want to see America destroyed.

I love it when people who know nothing about a topic choose to prove this to the board.

There is no reason to have an Iron Dome. If someone even attempts to strike the US, Blow them off the map.

Nothing about terrorism in your link. As for cartels, about 90% of all drugs enter legal entry ports as contraband; not by mules entering the country illegally.

Regarding the border numbers, there was a rise that started in 2019. It dropped significantly in 2020 due to the pandemic. Comparing 2021 numbers to 2020 is a bit disingenuous. Still more in 2021 through 2023, but things are dropping. In fact, 2024 has seen less encounters since 2021.

That's actually pretty interesting hypothetical there. You might be on to something.

    ...or on something. :monkey:

(Totally kidding with that last line. Just some Friday fun.)

Seriously though...interesting to ponder. What if...

No, no terrorist acts as of yet, but intel holds thst many terrorists have entered. Who knows why they haven't stricken yet, but I didn't inflate the number for them, rather shoe horned them in with fenty, gang hits, murder robberies, murder rapes... ALL on fenty's tab.

The notion of an iron dome for the US is beyond stupid. Even the military brass are not asking for this. Trump wants to say it because rah-rah, 'murrica, and it sounds tough. Let's be rational, and do some simple math.

A few logistical things you need to be aware of...
The iron dome is a short range missile intercept system, so you need a lot of them. Like, a lot, a lot...
Each battery consists of 3-4 launchers, each holding 20 missiles
Those missiles cost $20k-$100k each, call it $50k average
A battery covers an area of just 58 square miles. That's it...
The US is 450x the area of Israel, coming it at a whopping 3.8+ MILLION square miles
3,809,525 square miles / 58 square miles per battery = 64,681 batteries to cover the US

Each battery has an estimated cost of $100M to produce, plus each interceptor missile $50k. A battery has 60-80 missiles in lauchers. But for a minute let's ignore the ongoing maintenance/upkeep of refreshing those missiles - all 4.5 million of them (worth about $226 BILLION just to fill the launchers, let alone having extras stockpiled to reload).

That is literally $6.5 TRILLION just to cover the US in iron dome batteries. Probably closer to $7 TRILLION once you put missiles in them. Most fiscally conservative republican party I've seen in my lifetime, lol... what a joke.

That's from February 2023. This is what the head of the Union representing Border Patrol Agents said about the Senate Immigration Reform Act, blocked by the House of Representative at Donald Trump's request.
Border Patrol union backs Senate immigration bill despite House GOP opposition
The union that represents front-line Border Patrol agents supports the Senate immigration reform bill, saying the new authorities it gives agents to turn migrants away are a key step in the right direction. That's despite heavy opposition from House Republicans that might scuttle the effort -- at least for the time being. The National Border Patrol Council has previously endorsed Donald Trump for president and routinely takes hard-line positions on immigration enforcement.

"This is absolutely better than what we currently have," National Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd told ABC News.
Seems that if you value the opinion of the Border Patrol you should be really offended by Donald Trump's effort to block the most consequential border security legislation in decades.
