US could add 1B people overnight and still not be as populated as China or India. US is roughly 95% the size of China and almost 3x the size of India. (This doesn’t consider uninhibited areas e.g. Alaska or Tibet.)

It would seem so. My guess is they wanted to carefully select who got classified as 'elite' to achieve their desired result.

I think they based the density on zip code, not county.

Here's my theory. They went out & collected this data & ex post sliced & diced it until they got the result they wanted. I doubt this was their ex ante "research" design.

edit. dangole beat me to it.

This is a dumb question. It's not a binary choice. Our current system allows parents to have a say in this system by electing school boards, which oversee the administrators and teachers.

The elite criteria appears baked. $150k is not elite. But it is the population density that narrows it to more liberals. We fit the first two criteria between income and one post grad degree, but our suburban home population density is likely moderately less than their criteria. The density is likely only going to be near city centers where you have expensive but smaller properties - like you would see in parts of downtowns in CA, NYC and Chicago.

I sq mile is 640 acres. That would be 2560 1/4 lots. It is damn near impossible to get to 10,000 people per square mile with single family homes. The only way it works is multifamily - high rise, condos, etc, but the $150k narrows it to those with above average incomes. Again, NYC, San Fran, Chicago, maybe Miami Beach etc.

So elites don't live in the Hamptons or Nantucket or Aspen or west palm beach or so many other areas less than 10k/sq mile?

It doesn't matter. People read it and got mad.
I posted the list up thread. It's dominated by NY area zip codes with a good # in the greater LA area and a small smattering of other large cities.

don’t disagree but you can see this in most
Push polls on either side. Questions are
Framed as either binary or neither answer

At best it’s a nonsensical measure, if anything the population density thing is backwards. They wouldn’t consider some billionaire with 100,000 acres or a private island residence as “elite”? Mmkay.

Quite the braintrust they are employing over there at Rasmussen.

Guess I used to be an elite, but now that I've retired and moved out of city life I'm just a commoner.:(

    e·lite
    /iˈlēt,āˈlēt/
    noun
    1. 1.
a select group that is superior in terms of ability or qualities to the rest of a group or society.
"the elite of Britain's armed forces"

how elite became a pejorative may be the key to America's problems. It's been a long time coming. I read this back in the day. To not only tear them down, but to try to denigrate them as less than an avg American - or, worse - an enemy, is like a vile form of communism/anti-meritocracy. "I don't need no expert telling me shit." &, to tie it
to wealth is just pure trashy shit.

It seems the internet has made everyone a PhD expert on all subjects. Who needs a real PhD doing research when you can watch YouTube videos?

Excellent example of how ignorant "most mainstream Americans" are considering that they ARE the school administrators, school board members and some are even teachers in a union.

The concept that political positions are some special class of "they" makes sense at the federal level, even in many state capitals. However, if you give up control of your own school board and local schools that is your fault....talking to you "most mainstream Americans".

Not to quibble, but it's not the elites that have to go. It's their elites that have to go

I know, it gets confusing, especially when their elites become your elites.
