I’m an independent, too. It gives that luxury of objectively pointing out both sides.

Now that we’ve moved past the non-issue, where’s the issue with Lara and the Republican’s mockery of their “meritocracy” platform?

I think it's incredibly stupid. Both sides are idiots. Wouldn't vote for either biden or trump under any circumstances. Now hopefully we can have UF adopt a position of admitting people based on merit like major sports teams do.

According to the Census website's estimate, we're at 17%.
    https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/FL/PST045223

DEI doesn't have anything to do with admissions preferences at UF.
That's UF admitting it has a problem, saying it is going to take concrete steps to fix it, and connecting that problem specifically to racism and inequity. The university also went out of its way to mention Black students, faculty, and staff.

    Huh?

Why wouldn't a "Diversity, Equity and Inclusion" program NOT have anything to do with Including more blacks, and all other under represented groups into the broader student body population? Doesn't it seem like that is exactly what those programs are for?

That’s press release is a bunch of fluff, it’s a virtue signal.

Guess there’s some debate on %..
    Demographics of Florida - Wikipedia.

“According to the 2021 US Census Bureau estimates, Florida's population was 56.1% White (51.1% Non-Hispanic White), 15.1% Black or African American, 2.9% Asian, 0.3% Native American and Alaskan Native, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 6.5% Some Other Race, and 19.1% from two or more races

I don't think there is debate. Wikipedia is citing to the 2021 Census estimates. I gave you the 2023 Census estimates.

As for your other response, you demanded evidence. I gave you evidence straight from UF. You've decided to disregard it because you don't want to believe it. That's your right, but UF's own words answered your question. Nothing more to say at this point.

Doesn’t surprise me employees aren’t talking. It’s a pretty common unwritten rule at Uf- talk to the media about anything meaningful that is in any way negative and you’ll never work there again. If you’re staff anyways. Faculty probably being pressured by deans not to talk for fear of reprisals as it relates to funding. The only people who talk will be people with no intention of returning or angry tenure faculty and I doubt many of them care enough about dei to make a scene.

Why did UF let people go when other Universities just reclassified their employees' positions?
