Gee, after years of Donald Trump dominating the national scene, and what looks like a few more years to go, someone asks where all the hatred in America is coming from. That's a tough one.

 

The crime is horrible, of course. But are we really acting surprised that there's violence in jails and "OMG, what is this country coming to?"

 

I worked for the Florida Department of Corrections for several years, and I can vouch for the fact that there are some really bad people in our prisons. And then there's the inmates.

 

Interestingly, the perpetrator was a Black man who murdered another inmate because he despised people with an Hispanic/Mexican background. Unless I'm mistaken a certain presidential candidate has a long history of demonizing Mexicans.

Maybe I'm mistaken I suspect that OP posted the story because he mistakenly thought that the murder was a case of Black on White violence rather than Black on Hispanic violence.
Correction: Although he may have read actually read the story he apparently decided to focused on the headline rather than the actual text.

 

This is an interesting complaint. Crime is out of control in prison? Why do we want to put more people in jail then? The OP started another thread hoping drug use would be recriminalized.

Sheriff responds to claims inmate was eaten alive by bed bugs inside Fulton County Jail

ATLANTA — The family of a man who died in the Fulton County Jail says he was eaten alive in his cell by bed bugs and insects.

Photos provided by the family’s lawyer show a jail cell in deplorable condition and pictures of Thompson’s body – of his face and torso covered with bugs.

Thompson was arrested last June for simple battery, a misdemeanor.

Attorney Michael Harper said Thompson was diagnosed with schizophrenia but was physically healthy when booked into jail.

Victor Hill trial: Suspended Clayton County sheriff guilty on 6 of 7 federal charges

ATLANTA - After multiple days of deliberation, a federal jury has found suspended Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill guilty on six of seven charges he violated the constitutional rights of pre-trial detainees by having them strapped into restraint chairs inside the jail for hours at a time.

Federal prosecutors allege Hill violated the Constitutional rights of pre-trial detainees inside the jail between December 2019 and May 2020.

Hill is accused of calling a landscaper who had a dispute with one of Hill’s deputies. The indictment says he instructed the deputy to take out a warrant for harassing communications. Hill allegedly sent a fugitive squad to try to arrest the man on the misdemeanor charge, the indictment says. The man hired a lawyer and cooperated with jail staff before Hill ordered him placed in the restraint chair, the indictment says.

The indictment alleges a deputy arrested a teenager accused of vandalism in April 2020, and the deputy texted Hill a photo of the teen in a patrol car.

• "How old is he?" Hill texted, according to an indictment.
• "17," the deputy responded.
• "Chair," Hill responded.

 

Seems Fulton jail system has problems.

Plaintiffs presented photographs from an inspection by the Georgia Advocacy Office showing garbage strewn cells, standing toilet water on the floor, a trail of urine flowing from a cell door, bloody clothes and underwear stained with fecal matter lying in the living areas, toilets full of garbage, and feces and blood on the walls. These women, some of whom were caged because of petty offenses, would sometimes remain in their squalid cells around the clock for weeks or months on end.

 

there should be a caveat on “hatred in America” - this is prison. It’s awful but there have been race based gangs and violence in prisons everywhere, forever. So it’s prison full of prisoners. And doesn’t maga like the idea of prisoners being beaten, mistreated, etc. and safer prisons costs more $.

But yes, as far as hatred in America, just listen to trump spewing, vitriol and encouraging anger and divisions. He promoted a “truth” about another civil war. His entire vibe is anger and negativity.

See, if you were doing it right you would say that of course Fulton County jails have a problem, they are in libbie cities (atlanta). What you should have done is found these problems in Grady Judd's jail or that guy out in Arizona (Maricopa Co?)

 

Most prison gangs are ethnic based and will fight other ethnic gangs. I'm not really sure why this is newsworthy

 

And if you dont, join the most powerful gang

 

I knew an inmate who hated to leave at the end of his sentence. He said he had made more friends in prison than anywhere else in his life.
