US retail lobbyists retract key claim on 'organized' retail crime

I hate being right all the time, but I suppose the damage is done already. Its all about vibes out there, not facts.

Awww the era of social media. Roll with the headline, never mind the facts. Every idiot with a laptop can spread lies galore to a hoard of waiting pirranhas waiting to feed.

I hate Zuckerburg and all the other clowns that have made information "disinformation" for profit or political gain, but thats the world of today.

I thought retail theft was down because it’s been decriminalized ?

I don’t know if the claims were exaggerated or if organized shoplifting is a big thing or not. No clue. However, the shopkeepers seem to think it’s a thing. I was in Hoboken over Thanksgiving and in the CVS near my hotel so much of the stock was under lock it was more than a little aggravating to have to get an associate to come unlock the hair clip rack (true story). The employee said it was a problem and that much of the lifted stuff got resold across the river in NYC.
As it was a busy store I would think maybe they had to add additional staff to unlock everything- but it might have been a wash since it was employee-less self-checkout.

When we've discussed this before, stores were aware self-checkout would lead to more incidents of theft and they did it anyway, its hard to feel sorry for them when they made that choice. I only resent that they want to blame other people for problems of their own making, and indulge the "tough on crime" psychos who just so happen to also favor low corporate taxes, lax regulation and such.

The irony being that they were the ones committing the crimes and had to close because they got caught. :emoji_joy:

While the actual reality is that the restaurant was forced to shut down as the result of its loss in a lawsuit in which it was found to have illegally stiffed its workers the overwhelming majority of Fox News viewers almost certainly still believe the restaurant's false narrative that it was forced to close as the result of crime in the community.
