Trey Burton has the record for most TDs in a game, but his were passing(1) and rushing(5). John Brantley was the QB that season.

Your take appears to be a sports commentator who needs an audience to get paid. And in these days of too-many-options, they tend to go "outrageous" in order to get folks to tune in, if not for the fight sequences amongst the panelists. Cowherd tries to be analytical but he knows his audience. If he plays it safe, no one listens/watches.

Your post fits that to a T. There is bold and then there is....

    Guess where I put yours?;)

Offense isnt the problem. 29, 31, 33 & 35 points should be enough to win games… IF the defense can generate stops. KY was the one really big outlier.

Trask was decisive in his reads. That's all that mattered. He certainly benefited from receivers who could win a position fight for a 50/50 ball but if he didn't read progressions well he would have eventually been a turnover machine. Defenses never shut him down despite not having a run game.

The bowl game thing to me is completely out of context. Qbs and receivers develop timing through practice. Its no surprise that Trask performed poorly with a bunch of 2nd and 3rd string receivers who themselves were short on 1st team reps. Let's also not forget Pitts spread the ball around plenty. There were times where he didn't make the best read because he went to Pitts but other guys got plenty of catches. That doesn't happen without hitting progressions.

Didn't he have one receiving TD as well in that (Kentucky?) game?

If I may go all analytical/philosophical on this, my take has been that "those quarterbacks" are damn rare. What I mean is that football is a rugged and nasty game that appeals to, um, "less-than-Chardonnay-drinkers." And quite frankly relies on some kind of athletic superiority (at least above the HS level) to succeed. And that includes the QB position. In the real world, someone whose mind can process the action on the field are a dime a dozen, although if they aren't quite tall enough, their view may be limited. But anyways, go ahead and peruse the Engineering School for the next QB prospect.

The problem is that "those types" usually 1) aren't nearly athletic enough, 2) can't throw a football accurately, or 3) strongly, or 4) quick releasely enough and lastly, 5) even if they did have the capacity to throw it competently enough, learning the position and making mistakes means getting hit a LOT. Isn't this THE main issue, you can find plenty of HUGE guys on the HS campus, and some of them are even quite naturally strong, but one step into the field and then have a guy in front of them hit them squarely in the mouth isn't what makes them tick, analogy speaking? It is what it is.

And so, how do you find a QB who has the skill to throw the ball, avoids getting hit too much, not wilting when he does, and also can process the game in front of him to an elite level. Brady and Rogers are NOT a dime a dozen. I am glad we have an alum in Trask. I think he will have a nice career in the NFL. And as the song says, you don't know what you got till it's gone.

Pets and Tony we’re not all world until Trask took over as quarterback and all of a sudden they’re wide open every play. If Traska our quarterback now I receiving core would look a lot better also

Most difficult position in sports in my opinion. At least to get to complete status. Lots of components to put together. Running is usually a bonus but not a requirement if one can process the field quickly.

It's "outrageous" to suggest one small aspect of Richardson's passing game is better than Trask's?

    When does my check arrive?

I still want to believe that, at the college level, if the QB runs really well, as long as there is the threat for others to hurt the opposing team if they play him too close (including "gotcha" passes) you can win championships. To me, Jalen Hurts was THE best example of this. But I am talking about his time at Bama and not with the Eagles. He has become a VERY capable QB in the NFL. Much better than Lamar Jackson with the Ravens (IMO).

Let me just confirm: Pitts and Toney were only great because Trask showed up? This is what we're saying?

Taking what the defense gives should always be the idea. I'd certainly rather have a capable runner than a statue but even a non running qb that can process a field quickly can hurt a defense with small gains running when they are there.

That was Russell Wilson in his prime. He should have won two SBs. Damn bad play call at the end of the second one.

When you give up 6 TD drives in a row, having a great quarterback only keeps you from getting blown out. 6 TD drives equals 42 points -- in consecutive possessions. That is why we lost to LSU. Any attempt to blame that loss on Richardson is beyond ridiculous.

I say that the jury is out on this one. I know which side my opinion leans to, but we will let time bear it out. Will hope for the best and revisit the issue in about 18 months . By then we will know. One way or the other. I just know that I’m hoping ‘post’ AR that we will be done with ‘developing’ Qbs. Go recruit with the big boys Coach Nape. Bring us guys in that are ready after their redshirt year to perform like top SEC Qb’s. If Bama can, no reason we can’t.

You need to go back and watch a few GNFP offensive breakdowns from 2020, cause you seriously have no idea what you're talking about.

In fact I re-watched quite a few games earlier in this season comparing him to Trask. He didn't get to #3 often. Didn't have to.

I still can’t get over this thread

Most college teams and most SEC teams would gladly swap QBs with us. Gladly.

He will be a first round pick this year or next, at QB

Now will he be a stud in the NFL? Who knows. Could he have a long life as a well paid Chase Daniels type backup? Maybe. Could he be a good TE? Possibly. But it’s all speculation. He’s a 1st round pick at QB, if he doesn’t hit his goals there and wishes to switch positions later then he can cross that bridge in a couple years

Watching a few games is not the same as watching an in-depth breakdown with the benefit of the All-22 film. 90% of the time you can't even see the coverage or routes developing on the tv angles, nevermind being able to follow where the QB is looking.
No sense in arguing, though, as you're probably the only person on the planet with this opinion
