Yeah, a lot of the far right is already there on Christian theology, it will be interesting to see if that actually trickles into conservative discourse. As conservatives also become increasingly secular, it might have some cache. We had a thread on conservatives and Muslims finding an anti-gay alliance politically, that also came to mind here.

 

Yes, some of the other pieces are how its hard for rich people to enter the kingdom of heaven and that you should turn the other cheek if attacked and not shoot them

First of all, I said Judeo-Christian morality, and I've been to church, what was quoted there was simply a parable dressed up in secular language for a mass audience. If you find it banal, I think that speaks to the general dominance of that ethic in the culture. Its old hat, not anything radical.

 

Wait. If they're rich, they must be intelligent.

If they're intelligent, they must be kind.

If their kind, they must be heavenbound

Ok. Chapter n verse please, of the parable that proclaims "kindness = intelligence."

I wholeheartedly agree with this. Exhibit A. my husband, the kindest person I've ever known, and an actual rocket scientist.

 

How do you get that being kind equals being blinkered to dangerous situations and surroundings? The other part of the kind=smart is the "smart," part, which indicates to me an elevated sense of potential peril.

I think the words "shut down," are unfortunate, and I don't agreed with that part. All parts of the brain, and instincts, should be in play at all times. I think the intelligent part is the ability to distinguish when lizard brain/higher thinking are best employed to deal with situations.

I can agree with your post. In no way do I think being kind is a bad thing.
If anything, I’m way too nice and kind in the real world. I have been taken advantage of too many times. It’s unfortunate but true.
Nice guys don’t always finish first. Lol.

 

Sometimes doing the right thing means you have to lose.
