Just asking a very ignorant question about gap vs zone blocking. it seems this single change left our coaching staff completely unprepared. Is this something that typically teams can't implement within just a week and is really a big philosophical change and takes weeks of preparation so this change is something that shocking? or should a staff trully be prepared for the 2 methods? Gives me the sense that if vandy has never ran the option for example, if they show up and run the triple option, we will get torched.
You'd think they'd coach the various schemes regularly, but focus most on what the upcoming opponent's tendencies are. And, since they've practiced other schemes, they should be able to adjust. It isn't like every opponent plays the same scheme as every other opponent. If they haven't the ability to adjust during the game, then we know how this is going to play out in the future.
Gap blocking is better, IMHO. Zone needs to be done as one single O-line unit working in unison and that's hard to master or achieve.
