I think she should absolutely pardon him but only with some sort of ironclad guarantee that he can never run for ANY federal office ever again.
Assuming that would be enforceable and he wouldn't just change his mind, I still see some issues. First, a Federal pardon would not apply to the state crimes. Second, it would provide ammunition for those claiming the indictments were part of a deep state conspiracy to keep him out of power. Finally, IF he loses again in 2024, I think it'd be healthier long-term for Trump to either voluntarily choose not to run again - or to force Republicans to decide amongst themselves if they want Trump to be the face of the party going forward.
Nixon resigned and was pardoned - by his own party. Trump is likely to get a response from Harris that she is staying out of it. Next Republican can pardon Trump… maybe he can pardon himself.
I understand your POV, but I think it would be for the betterment of the country overall. Also historically, "rubbing their noses in it" has never worked out well.
You're probably correct since he was and still is under the illusion that he will win the election and make all the federal cases go away while delaying the state cases. If he loses the election he may have second thoughts.
Any pardon MUST be predicated on Trump acknowledging that he "made mistakes" (a euphemism for "committed crimes) and agrees to keep his mouth shut regarding partisan politics. In other words, he must get the hell out of our lives!.
I get the desire to move on but at what cost? You don’t think it tells the next guy/gal that there are no consequences to lawlessness?
which would require an admission of guilt. it will not ever happen unless they accepted some crap ass admission
do you consider the two equitable by any measure other than they both did something illegal? they have nothing on Biden, that ship sailed and sunk
nope. clear and straight forward admission of guilt for multiple felonies. ne mealy mouth made mistakes nonsense
Pardon Trump for what? For being a patriotic American opposed to traitors who want to destroy America by letting illegals flood our country? For wanting to get our budget under control by unleashing Elon Musk? For wanting peace abroad and prosperity at home? For putting Robert F Kennedy Jr in charge of making Americans more healthy, restoring our soils, cleaning up our air and water? For opposing censorship? Maybe your team is evil?
No real obstacle there. You make the language similar to Nixon’s pardon. Something vague like “whatever crimes he may have committed.”
That is likely not the law. That concept is sourced from a 1915 SCOTUS opinion, Burdict v. U.S. The language appearing to make that requirement has recently been held to be dicta, language that is not part of the actual ruling itself and, therefore, not controlling on other courts. That was holding in Lorance v. Commandant, a Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals case. Lieutenant Lorrance was convicted of murder for ordering his platoon to open fire on 3 Afghans, killing two of them. "For the reasons provided above, we hold that Lorance’s acceptance of the presidential pardon did not constitute a legal confession of guilt or a waiver of his habeas rights, nor did it leave the court without a live case or controversy. The Court reverses the district court’s dismissal of Lorance’s habeas petition and remands for further proceedings." https://fingfx.thomsonreuters.com/gfx/legaldocs/mypmnoxykvr/pardon.pdf
How many of Trumph's lackeys have already served time? How many more will? The dude is a horrible person and a career criminal. He conspired against the U.S. He's already a convicted felon, found liable for sexual abuse, and God knows what other things he's done, esp. crimes against women. No pardon. LOCK HIM UP!
