Doesn’t really matter if you’re right or wrong as it won’t change the past. What’s happened has happened. More than likely Billy and Scotty will be fired, and we’ll get to see what the new guys can do.

For some reason, I imagine the usual suspects will have immediate issues with both hires and get the doomsday what if scenarios up and going, just waiting for the day when someone else will get fired. If we win a natty, they knew it all along!

OC? Obviously you didn’t watch any of his games at Louisiana Community College. SPOILER ALERT: He was calling those same five tired a***d plays that Miami game planned for this past weekend back then too. Probably the same ones that got him fired as an OC.

Well aware the status quo. With NIL and now profit share, to hell with that status quo. Make it so you don’t need a coach to check 10 boxes, he only needs to check 5, and add another position to handle the other 5. Both could be more focused and better suited to handle their part.

It's only a crap-shoot to the people that make it that... Kirby smart was one of the defensive architects at bama, far smarter than Muschamp has ever been, and he spent way more time with Saban than the other assistant coaches from the Saban coaching tree. And most of all Kirby knew exactly how to buy... err... to convince players to sign with him without even first proving his worth as a winner/head coach. Muschamp was just a defensive minded coordinator, and anyone with people skills and football knowledge should have seen Muschamps shortcommings before they gave him the keys to the kingdom.

One conversation with both of them, separately, would have been enough and clear to see which one was worthy to be head coach and the one that was not... Norvell will crash and burn... Christobal is what Miami deserves, but just because he was better than Napier does not make him worthy to coach the Gators. Those three were and still are crap-shoots. But yes, some coaches get lucky in recruiting and in the transfer portal.

The point that I made was that the only coach out of the 6 we hired after Steve Spurrier tht was worthy to be the head ball coach was Urban Meyer. He was also the only coach to win a new year's 6 game, before we hired him, as the head football coach of another football team. He was NOT a Crap-shoot. All the rest of our hires were a "crap-shoot."

Survivorship bias. Also, when I say crap-shoot I don't mean it's all 50/50. Urban was by far the highest chance to hit out of the list and he did, but don't pretend it was a guarantee by any stretch. Same logic on chance to hit can be applied to 5* vs 4* vs 3* as coaching hires.

I'm not saying that the results are not a crap-shoot. But that we can mitigate that outcome with a better approach to our hiring practices. And I pointed out one in particular thing that seems to be the noticeable detail that has been missed on 5 or the 6 hires we've made since Steve Spurrier left our football program.

Meyer was the only proven head football coach... before we hired him.

I think we agree for the most part, maybe differ on what % we would give perspective canidates based on resume. Perhaps I am more extreme in belief of even with impeccable resume I still would have my doubts. IE. I would give Kirby 90% at UF today, while many would probably be 99% if not 100.

I just would like for us to hire proven winners as head coaches to help prevent the crap-shoot gambling we've been engaging in the past for a head football coach.

And out of the 6 coaches we hired after Spurrier only Meyer was a proven winner as a head football coach before we hired him... And we won 2 College Football, National Championships because he was a proven winner... after we hired him. No crap-shoot required to get the right man for the job.

If a sure thing was a sure thing, we’d all be piling up natties. I’d give Kirby more like 70%. It’s just something that’s nearly impossible to predict. The situation he has there will not be the exact situation he’d have here. You just don’t know.

Absolutely, no argument to the sentiment. I just look at it from a more risk adverse way, I guess. Where I'm just not going all in again no matter how much I've maximized my chances of sucess. There is simply too much data that says even those can't misses do miss and then you got a Jimbo buy out getting you fired and hamstringing the program.

I mentioned Urban 3 years ago. If not Urban then the cheating preacher wannabe Freeze who now coaches at Aubie. I was chastised for suggesting these guys.

Maybe Lincoln Riley. I can’t recall if he was eligible at that time. He probably just went to USC from Oklahoma and he wasn’t really on the market; but most of these coaches mentioned were previously coaching I believe. He left Oklahoma in 2021 for USC. (I had to look that up)
While I thought Napier might work out, I knew nothing about him and was hoping he would pan out. I did like Mullen but primarily for his offensive play calling; he was deficient and lazy on so many levels and was kind of a smart ass.

Napier was the home run hire. He just didn’t work out. Well he may can still work out as he’s set us up for long term success down the road. Napier has changed the facilities and the culture of Florida football and left the next coach with a pretty good slate to work with.

I don’t know. Josh Heupel was hired 9 months before Napier at a school with just as much problems keeping coaches and he got $4 million per season.

People complain about running through coaches. But I'm fine with it. Keep at it till we get a real
Championship contender. Better than being stuck with someone like Brian Kelly. Just good enough to not fire.

Look at the number of high value recruits that flame out. It is the same with coaches, and we haven’t been attracting the 1%ers. 3 star coaches ;)
None of our discards have been highly coveted which indicates the actions taken were appropriate. Fine tune the hiring process.

Gotten too old to care about researching candidates at this point. But someone who builds excitement and is demands excellence of themselves and others
