Yes, he did it from the beginning and continued to do so 3 years in. “Scared money” literally describes his entire coaching philosophy.
No person has done more for UF football than Steve Spurrier. We were fortunate Ray Graves was able to recruit him to UF. I am not a personal friend or even acquaintance of SOS but I feel like I have a kind of kinship in that I was at UF same time as he was and are the same age, actually he is three weeks older than me. He still has a sharp mind but physically he is feeling the aches, pains and breakdowns that occur at nearly 80 years old. It ain’t pretty. I hope he is offered an opportunity to have input in deciding who we should hire and possibly even an advisory position in an interim coaching role but I think he would turn the latter down. He deserves the respect he is getting but as one poster said”let’s don’t help sending him to an early grave.”
Yeah if we make a rash move like that now we would probably get embarrassed on the field and we wouldn’t want that to happen.
Not only the aches and pains of an 80 year old but in1976 starting for the Bucs in their inaugural season he took about 15 seasons worth of punishment. Wait, punishment might be an understatement. He has earned his retirement and all of the happiness of his accomplishments and family. If he wants to help in the selection, then by all means give him a 50% vote.
