Yes I do own a MAGA hat, I didn't buy it my daughter in law gave it to me when I put my boat in a Trump boat parade back in 2020.

Anyway I got a summons for jury duty earlier in the week. The summons said to register with the clerk of the court in advance. I called to see what I needed to do and the lady told me since I am over the age of 70 I could opt out. I went ahead and opted out. Heck I planned to wear that MAGA hat to jury selection anyway. That woulda got me off real quick. Seriously though the last couple of times I was called for jury duty it didn't take long for the attorneys for the defense to scratch me off the list anyway. Guess my anti crime stance is pretty obvious. Probably shouldn't have said "sounds like a hanging offense to me".

I’m a retired LEO and fire investigator. They won’t let me near a jury.

When they find out about me my wife also becomes no bueno.

I assure you, it was not your "anti crime stance" that got you excused. I have never had a potential juror indicate they were "pro crime.

I was surprised I got on a jury since I'm an attorney. I found out later that a prosecutor friend of mine who was in the courtroom (for a different case) told the prosecutor on my case that I would be fair. I suppose the defense attorney wasn't concerned about me since I admitted in voir dire that I am not a fan of our drug laws. In any event, the evidence was overwhelming. Also, the fact that the defendant was cooking meth around kids made him less sympathetic than he would have been otherwise. Interesting to experience it from the juror perspective though.

To be honest, unless you have a legitimate reason to not sit on a jury, we all should attend and not "try to get out of" jury duty. If no one shows up for jury duty, the entire system comes to a halt. I've been defending personal injury cases, but still went last January when called.

Oh I agree, the only reason I took the over 70 opt out clause was because since my bout with COVID and congestive heart failure in August my memory tends to fail me, my blood oxygen levels were dangerously low for a couple of days. When I often can't remember the name of the person we are talking about or the order things happened in I don't think I would make a good juror.

Like I said earlier I don't think I would ever be chosen in a criminal case anyway. I think just the mention of most crimes would show on the look on my face.

Me neither. I always assumed it was because my father was a judge, but he passed 14 years ago at this point.

I got picked for a MJ case (kg) even though I said it should be legal during juror questioning. Ended up voting guilty despite my personal beliefs on MJ.

When the system favors those with $, no way do I feel guilty opting out. The whole system is a farce.

would a maga hat get you out of JD? It’s a good indication facts don’t matter. And in your example, you believe nutty conspiracy theories. ie the fbi and cia was behind the Jan 6 assault on our capital.

“Anti crime” is just another empty catch phrase for many trump followers. They gleefully beat men and women LEO on Jan 6th. Broke bones, put people in the hospital and ended careers.

He’s more of a “anti-crime only if it’s committed by certain people” guy

Been called several times. Once hung around for several hours before the rest of us were sent home because so many cases had pleaded out.
Got called up to the courtroom once in a pool, but I knew the judge, one of the attorneys and a witness. Wasn't chosen.
A few years ago, I was on the jury of a DUI/resisting arrest case. We cleared him very quickly. I recognized the judge in that one, we went to the same gym and had spoken a few times.
