I say to hell with Greenland and Canada

We protect that nation from the Chinese and the Russians, yet Denmark is in control of their sovereignty. Let the people of Greenland vote for their future.

 

I feel pretty uninformed here. I’m 58 years old, fair well read, but in my entire life I have heard about US interests in acquiring/annexing/conquering Greenland twice—when Trump m@de the flippant comment that he wanted to buy the country during his first administration, and now. And while we certainly have military bases—they are essential for the entire NATO defense, I’ve never heard we wanted to possess it.

Can you send some background on the 100 years of wanting Greenland?

 

China and Russia are making their military presence felt off their shoreline lately... many incursions. And we have a base there, not NATO. Although the Europeans think it's convenient for them to classify our military as part of NATO when they like the sound of it. But from what I have read it's an American military base, and NOT a NATO base.

 

Just how many operational NATO bases do you think there are? NATO is mostly comprised of a collection of individual countries’ militaries. The 2% target is intended to ensure there are enough military resources to combine to defend NATO. Those resources are not just equipment and personnel but military bases where NATO’s combined forces can stage/deploy.
