I carry a very basic commercial policy for this car because I sometimes use it for work purposes ... it was $1800 last year ...thanks DeSantis ...

I have a perfectly clean record, too, BTW...

The worst people in the country have been flocking there in droves. No surprise car insurance premiums are increasing.

Googling around, it seems that rates doubling in the Tampa area was the norm this year ...

I'm at $2400/year for 2 cars. One is new (and a sports car) and the other is a 2012 Camry.

I did read the newer cars (even though they have a higher value) can be less to insure due to their increased safety features ...

I did get quite a few discounts for safety features. I'm insured by USAA btw (my wife's Dad was a Vietnam vet in both the Army and Marines if you can believe that).

Auto insurance has always been ridiculous in FL.

even if you shop around for cheaper auto insurance, the next renewal will jump through the roof.

It's not just auto. Working on the renewals for my bar right now. There's only a handful of companies that will still write liquor liability quotes that cover bodily injury in Florida. And if you want wind coverage on your commercial property better bring a large tub of lube.

My insurance lady hates her job now because all she does is ruin people's businesses with renewal quotes.

I've been saying on these forums for about 3 years now this would be the biggest issue effecting Florida coming up, and here we are. DeSantis hasn't helped, but nobody prior did shit either. Every market is FUBAR. Auto, commercial auto, homeowners, inland marine.... name it

You can thank the overall price of Vehicles, homes and medicine. When a new car is $50k when it was half of that a decade ago, you should expect a 100% increase of insurance rates. Same thing is happening to homes. Stupid people get stupid prizes.

You should host some drag queens and get your license pulled, then you wouldn't need liquor liability

My friend just bought an $80,000 Tesla and expected to get a huge increase over his 10 year old Acura he was dropping, but said his insurance went down quite a bit ... it's again because of the safety features, they say. I don't think car price is that big of a piece of the equation ... it seems to be driven by "bodily injury" liability costs -- which can happen with a beater or a nice new car. Also read that insurance companies are blaming Florida for becoming a haven for "fake accidents" and insurance fraud, which it seems like that is something the Governor and Legislature could do something about.

Agreed, the issue has been here for 20 years though, and honestly I dont see it going away anytime soon. The liability insurance industry and lawyers here in florida have a foothold on the legislators. I dont see that changing, its a big money maker for the state. Thats one of the big issues with this state in general, is it doesnt have any stable industry here, its all services and tourism.

The $80,000 tesla your friend bought will increase in insurance dramatically over the next 5-6 years. It happens to every vehicle, the cheapest insurance will always be the first year or two, them slowly increase as parts prices and liability risk increases. We havent seen the last of insurance increases, in fact i think we will see it for the next 3-4 years as all these new vehicles that folks bought coming out of covid mature.

And Florida mostly dodged the bullet this year, but more major hurricanes are coming. There's gonna be a lot of unhappy new residents who moved to Florida for the low taxes.

Anyone complaining about insurance costs in Florida need look no further than John Morgan, his ilk, and his little brothers working in the roofing hail damage industries.

The state legislature has re-upped PIP and tinkered with it multiple times, that was supposed to reduce lawsuits, fraud and tort claims. From what I can tell, my biggest increases were on the UM coverage, and I don't know what that has to do with John Morgan or PI attorneys. For the most part the lawyers just settle for policy limits and end up taking money out of the pockets of people who really didn't require their services to get a claim paid. If costs on medical and auto parts/labor increase, insurance is going to increase, its a more direct relationship to costs than tort claims.
