It was expected and has a lot more to do with overall roster numbers than a first year HBC, or at least equally as much.
Sorry can’t agree when starters leave to go start at other D1 schools, a few here and there it happens, but as many as we have currently you can’t convince me they are all weak, gutless or weren’t team players.
Do you think a bunch of starters are leaving? More than a “few here and there”? Your statements are all run together in one sentence, so I’m not sure if that’s what you meant. I can’t speak for wanne, but I certainly don’t think all the players that left are weak, gutless, or not team players. I think we needed a lot of room on our roster, and a rather large culling was happening whether we all really wanted it to or not. A few more than I expected, and a few I wished would have stayed, but it is what it is. When you need as many spots opened up as we did this year, a few extras were bound to get caught in the net. How many new players did you hope to bring in this cycle? Transfers and hs signees?
The two oline talent wise sucks but obviously there were issues and we don’t know what they were. Mclellen said guys didn’t want to work so hard. That’s the best we have to go on.
In my opinion if a kid enters the portal he’s looking to leave UF and his scholarship should immediately be cancelled. Look at it this way - if nobody else takes them why would we want them back, especially if they already quit on UF in the first place? You enter the portal, you gone

We're under no obligation to renew their scholly's once they enter the portal. You can't just take their scholly back mid term if that's what you're wanting, but you don't have to renew them for the following semester. I'm not as bullish on this policy as you and I'm willing to look at each situation independently. Allowing Zanders back last year ended up being pretty important as we entered the season way short on bodies at one of the positions he's played, and he played a lot this year. Every situation is different. I don't think it makes much sense not to go ahead and count them as gone once they enter though. It's very rare that one returns. The point of my above post had to do with the way that guy is counting our team vs the way he's counting other teams though. Nothing to do with my stance on allowing portal entries to return back to us.

I get it. The whole thing is dumb, and sorry, but I have a problem with people purposefully misrepresenting stats to try to paint our program in a negative light. There's enough true stuff going on right now that is negative enough. There's no need to fabricate more negativity.
Apparently you missed the information about the player's that left were complaining about Napier being to strict and giving kudos to Mullen for being more lax. That was the problem with Mullen, not enough discipline period!!!
We don't know why every single player left, but the resounding theme--complaining about strict player discipline. I suspect some wanted to test the Transfer Portal and NIL, as well. If some want to blame the poor team play on Napier, the player's were playing poorly under Mullen for two solid years. Frankly, some Gator fans are pissed off at Billy, when they should realize it is Mullen not Napier's fault! Player attitudes speak volumes to me. If a player doesn't buy into the new culture, then get the truck out!!!
I think some of the blame lies at the feet of both staffs. I think most who recognize my screen name would agree I'm more likely to put a positive spin on things than a negative spin, if there's anything positive to be seen. Mullen had a lot of flaws, and left a lot of his flaws behind when he left here, but Napier also had some things that would make you take pause this year. I like to see the team get better from the beginning of the year to the end. It's hard to say that happened this year. Beating Utah out of the gate was great, but we didn't really have another performance like that for the rest of the season. We were wildly inconsistent on both sides of the ball. I'm not going to micromanage individual decisions made along the way, but it's hard to say this team was better at the end of the season than they were at the beginning. It's hard to say they were equal. It's pretty easy to say they were worse, even considerably worse. It's year one. I'm not in a panic. The things you posted above are not wrong. He had to deal with players not fully buying in. He had to deal with push back from players who liked the last guy better. It's going to be mostly his guys next year though, and I would at least like to see some improvements made across the board from the beginning of the season until the end. The buy in excuse doesn't hold much weight in year two. The trouble makers should be weeded out by then. I'm not making any ultimatums, or requiring that he meet any specific w/l record, but I would like to be able to say that the team improved, and at least looks like a complete team when we get around to facing FSU.
I said before the Utah game that they were a pac 12 team and not as good as their ranking. They just got handled in their bowl by a decent team. We played a tough schedule and were in every game we played. We even tightened the game a bit against Georgia in the third quarter. We didn’t get worse as the season went on, we had a lot of younger guys getting snaps by the end of the season. The only way we beat Utah on that last drive was AR just putting the team on his back and running the ball. That didn’t happen often with him for whatever reason but he never got any better as a qb.
I don't have too much to argue about with your take or doc's. We see some things slightly different, but we're not that far off.
We all watched the games. There wasn’t many game changing players on our team to point at and question why they weren’t being used in a certain way. Etienne was a bright spot and was utilized. Defensively, who was that guy? That’s what Toney had to work with. We all saw the time management and the things we thought the staff should do but, how the hell do you run a two minute drill or an offense for that matter when your qb can’t hit a simple slant on 3rd and three. It’s hard to call a decent game when you can’t execute the simple things. Great players make coaches seem like geniuses. TCU is playing better than any team that coach has ever coached. Do you think the light just turned on for the guy and he can coach all of the sudden? I don’t. He was always a good coach but has a team that can execute now.
THIS!!! If AR had developed during the season, then, yes, I would have put the onus on Napier. I don't understand what the NFL sees in AR, because he needs one or even two more years of development in college! If AR had developed and become more consistent in completions, we would have had a winning season. And if we had improved after Utah and won the majority of our games, I highly doubt people would be faulting playcalling now!
