DEFCON 1 blurb from an Axios article on the debate:
    • "DEFCON 1 moment" David Plouffe, former President Obama's campaign manager, said on MSNBC. "The "concern level is quite high."
    Yep, 100% agree.

They need a BSometer symbol to go off above the candidates head when they are lying.

I don’t think anyone is enamored with Biden. Not woke enough, doddering, etc. Biden’s ONLY appeal is that he is not Trump.

You know all us old Rino’s who are never Trumpers. Personally, I blame Hillary ;)

What is sad is it isn't even about policy at this point. ( economy, foreign policy, health, education, all the usual policy debates that were the focal point in the past). Orange guy 2.0 vs nursing home patient.

This is an excerpt from Federalist Paper #68 written by Alexander Hamilton. Under the Electoral College as envisioned by Hamilton state legislators would select wise men who would use their independent judgment to elect the most qualified presidential candidate. Adding that the EC never operated as Hamilton intended it was his concern that a candidate with the following characteristics could be elected president:
Talents for low intrigue, and the little arts of popularity, may alone suffice to elevate a man to the first honors in a single State; but it will require other talents, and a different kind of merit, to establish him in the esteem and confidence of the whole Union, or of so considerable a portion of it as would be necessary to make him a successful candidate for the distinguished office of President of the United States.
The Avalon Project : Federalist No 68

Ironically those few words accurately describe Donald Trump the type of candidate that the Hamilton feared could be elected to the presidency. Whether you're willing to admit it or not the two presidential candidates are clearly indicative of a broken system that seriously requires change. The greatest threat to the Republic would a second Trump presidency. Trump much more resembles modern (20th and 21st century) authoritarian leaders than he does any of his predecessors or one successor.

You can always educate yourself on the subject by reading the following book or if you do not want to bother reading it a detailed summary:
    Strongmen: Mussolini To The Present
Covering a century of tyranny in Africa, Europe, and the Americas, this book examines how authoritarians use propaganda, virility, corruption, and violence to stay in power. Vladimir Putin and Mobutu Sese Seko’s kleptocracies, Augusto Pinochet’s torture sites, Benito Mussolini and Muammar Gaddafi’s systems of sexual exploitation, and Silvio Berlusconi and Donald Trump’s relentless misinformation: all of these practices show that, far from being an efficient and stable model of governance, authoritarian rule is marked by chaos and destruction.

After last night it looks to me that the media and the people who work close to Biden have been hiding and lying about how bad he really is for a good long while. No way he has been running the country. So who is doing his job? Also if he is not in good enough mental condition the run as many Dem's are now saying, then he is not in good enough health to run the country the rest of this term either.

I'm listening to Joe Biden's speech in North Carolina. If the same Joe Biden who is speaking now showed up for the debate last night he would have won going away. Unfortunately it may be a little too late for Old Joe and the Democratic Party.

No it didn't. Hamilton assumed that it would have been possible to select electors acting in good faith who would select the best qualified candidate for the president. The current EC doesn't operate remotely close to that model and what it is in fact is a distorted form of the popular vote with the votes of residents of some states ending up being way over weighed compared with the votes of residents of other states. Whether you're willing to admit it or not under the current system we ended up with the type of candidate feared by Hamilton and we may do so again.

It does lend itself to the over prepped position. I tend to think that is what it is. They gave him too many stats to slam into the debate with Trump and he ended up tripping over them and trying to remember what he was supposed to say all night. His most trusted advisors are policy people and they incorrectly think you win on that.

I am just not sure it matters because it steered right into the worst fear of many. See what happens in the polls. If it looks bad, he needs to act like the worst thing that can happen in this election is Donald Trump being elected and find a way to stop that.

His platform is the party platform. Dems want to raise taxes on the wealthy. And unless you make many millions per year, your taxes would not double. The 40% is a marginal rate that would only affect income over 1 million per year.

Sir, I'm proud of democrats. They have the balls to recognize Biden is no longer fit for the job and put country over party. Most republicans have no balls at all.

As for running the country, he's done a decent job. If you think Trump will do a better one, you're putting party over country, which the antithesis of patriotism.

Someone needs to explain to Biden that he is not going to be president next year either way, so he might as well step out. If he stays in, he will lose and his legacy will be destroyed. He will be the guy who turned the country over to Trump. If he steps away he will be the guy who was a pretty good president for 4 years and then did the right thing for the country by not running again.

Did they prep him with too many numbers, or does his brain no longer retain and retrieve such numbers? At one point he said that seniors’ scrips are limited to $200 a month no matter how many scrips they have, but later he quoted $2000 for the same fact. Maybe his neurons aren’t processing decimal points well any more.

Well, then that's all that matters, what's good for you. THAT mentality is a big reason this country is floundering - "what's in it for me".

If the polling shows that, I think that is the effective argument when combined with the existential threat of Trump (which I think he really does believe).
