I think that would enrage a huge portion of the electorate. I don't know ANYBODY who wants Kamala Harris to be president other than Kamala herself. Even over Joe Biden. If she's not a big enough person to put the country ahead of her political aspirations then maybe she can be paid off. But making her president is a terrible idea.
I think if Biden stays in, the big money is either gonna dry up or get diverted to lower races. In some ways, it could be better for dems to know sooner rather than later that Trump is going to win.
I'm afraid Biden's ship has sailed. He ain't coming back from the shark jump last night. Undecideds will either stay home, vote for Trump, or go third party.
Meh, I doubt anybody would be that enraged over a lame duck President. You would get a month of positive stories due to the history alone and then the election would kick into high gear and she would be essentially ignored.
You're crazy if you think having a black female president (that nobody likes!) for any period of time wouldn't trigger over 50% of the US population. And for what? To assuage her butthurt ego about taking a demotion? You think she'd be cool with accepting the 6 month lame duck presidential term and not run for re-election? It's just an asinine idea.
I think being the first woman President is a big deal. Not sure if she would be cool with it, but it is better than just bypassing her. And it would trigger some amount, for sure, but she wouldn't be running for election anyways. Again, think about this from a Republican perspective. You have three options: attack Kamala (who isn't running), attack Biden (who isn't running), or attack the nominee. The more time you spend on 1 and 2, the more of a free pass the nominee gets. That works out fairly well for Democrats. BTW, if the pick is somebody like Whitmer, having a woman in there could actually help by desensitizing some of those folks.
It will be a big deal when the american people ELECT a woman to a 4 year term. This would be some technicality bullshit that the vast majority of people do not want.
Yep, the first woman to occupy the oval office will want to have been elected to that post for a full four year term, with a shot at a second term as well. Not getting it " by default".
Again, most likely scenario is Biden tries to recover this anyway (especially if internal polls don't turn hard against him). But I've yet to hear a better idea for how to get ducks in a row that isn't just ignoring how politicians work because we wish it wasn't. Politicians want to be in history books. This puts her there, regardless of how she gets there.
Sure, if that is an option. Harris would love to run and win. Just not sure that she can. But I am sure that she would try without some plan in place. Her being unwilling to step aside will simply keep Biden in place. Somebody needs to come up with a plan to cause her to step aside if they want that to change.
Agreed, for whatever reason she does not resonate with the general electorate and would lose to Trump head to head in November.
If Biden is stepping down, he needs to do it in the next day or two…. I don’t think he will, though. Whitmer makes the most sense to replace him, Dems need Michigan, Penn, and Wisconsin to win, and Whitmer is well liked up there…. I think if either Biden or Trump were to drop out and be replaced, that party would sail to an easy win…
It won't be that fast. Too reactionary. He will wait a week at least. See how the reaction plays out. See if the polls shift. See if he can calm the donors and House Democrats. If the polls turn hard, I suspect he will bow out then if they can work out a deal in the party to avoid a contested convention.
She's already in the history books. And yes, this would require ignoring a lot of historical political precedent to happen. We are clearly in uncharted waters here. But you're huffing glue if you think making Kamala the president is the easiest way to "get ducks in a row."
I doubt he does either because the dem party are a bunch of feckless boobs. But if he did I, sadly, think it should be a man. Better chance of winning.
