We were under contract on a house about 1 month ago that we ended up getting out of. That house was hit by a tornado and really messed up yesterday so I’m very thankful we did not purchase it. Terrible for the sellers but it was not their main house and they inherited it from a parent that passed so at least it wasn’t lived in.
And not to take any credit away from DeSantis, but he'd have to be a damn fool to be anything other than gracious to the POTUS (no matter who the POTUS is) in situations like these. It's Florida, so the governor is going to want to have a good relationship with the White House when it comes to hurricane aid and recovery, as there will no doubt be more threats in the future (as we have seen with Milton). Anything that would jeopardize this help from the feds would be monumentally stupid. Ron DeSantis doesn't have time for Kamala's games. She needs to let him do his job.
So I'm going to find your same comments in the Helene thread when folks were/are spreading lies about FEMA funds, Biden's handling of the disaster, etc? Honestly, I agree with you. My comment was tongue in cheek, and I really do wish the best for everyone in these difficult times. This is no time for crap, but I've decided if the pubs can dish it out, they better be able to take it too.
It’s almost spooky how good the forecast models have gotten. It’s like people are learning and getting better.
I thought there was an official announcement yesterday and that the cops made him or convinced him to leave. But then I kept seeing stories suggesting he was still in the boat.
Very odd thing. I lost several panels of aluminum soffit from the wind. This morning I also realized the wooden door that covers the workings of my hot tub was missing (maybe 2.5' x 2.5')...I had forgotten to lock it. The hot tub is on my porch to the rear of my home. As I was hunting for it, I noticed issues with my Rubbermaid storage shed where I keep shovels and a pressure washer among other things. It is tall enough to stand in. One of the two doors had blown off and the roof had separated on one side from the rest of the structure. I looked inside and my missing access panel was wedged in on top of the pressure washer. To get there, it had to miss a double set of sliding glass doors, move about 8 feet, make a left hand turn, miss another set of double sliding glass doors and blow into the shed at the perfect angle as the shed's remaining door was in the fully closed position. It traveled about 30 feet to get from its launching position to final resting spot. I wish I had a cam back there.
Crazy night. The wind and rain didn't let up until 230ish. Property is a mess. Most of S Tampa is out of power. Spent the last 5 hrs checking on friends, work and trying to clear the tree that fell so the TECO truck can get to the pole. I don't expect to get power restored for at least 4/5 days. The have bigger priorities.
Seems like if someone wants to ride out the storm in a boat let em, as long as they become the lowest priority for rescue.
As bad as it was, definitely could have been far worse. It didn't go straight into Tampa Bay at it's peak of 180mph for one thing.
Totally. And big picture, this is fortunate, I think. Less people and infrastructure to be destroyed. Plus the storm was such a beast like 24 before landfall. Could have been a other Ian or worse, but seems lesser.... Again, this is awful for so many and I'm sure we'll learn more bad stuff here, but seems it could a been worse in quite a few different ways.
My buddy keeps his trimaran anchored his tracker had him about forty feet inland but his boat survived.
My mom isn’t home yet, but thinks there was a tornado near her place in Clearwater off of US 19, a mobile home park has some damage. No reports of it on the page that tracks those things though. Storm Prediction Center 241009's Storm Reports
