Hunter Biden will plead guilty to two federal tax misdemeanors and one charge tied to gun possession.

Doesn't sound like this is related to the "big guy"

The plea deal will have immediate reverberations in the 2024 presidential election.

Hunter Biden will plead guilty to two federal tax misdemeanors and one charge tied to gun possession,

Is it my bias, or why is this supposed to have electoral impact? None of those changes appear to have anything to do with GOP fantasies, not that any aspect of reality ever does

"Hunter will take responsibility for two instances of misdemeanor failure to file tax payments when due pursuant to a plea agreement," Clark said.

"A firearm charge, which will be subject to a pretrial diversion agreement and will not be the subject of the plea agreement, will also be filed by the Government," he said. "I know Hunter believes it is important to take responsibility for these mistakes he made during a period of turmoil and addiction in his life. He looks forward to continuing his recovery and moving forward."

Well I’m voting for Trump now, because he doesn’t take plea deals!

Have to give the GOP House some credit. They got things turned around quickly. This would not be happening if the Dems still controlled the House.

The decision by U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who was nominated by President Trump in 2018, indicates an end to the sweeping, five-year investigation by federal prosecutors, FBI agents and IRS officials of Hunter Biden’s conduct. The Biden Administration has kept Weiss in place in order to avoid having a U.S. Attorney appointed by the President oversee his son’s criminal case.

The resolution suggests that prosecutors did not find cause to file charges related to Hunter Biden’s dealings with foreign entities or other wrongdoing.

WaPo says the likely sentence is a diversion program and two years probation.

That may be a little bit of a sweetheart deal on the gun charge (which is presumably making a false statement in connection with the purchase of a firearm, which is a felony with a ten year maximum sentence). Looks from googling like folks who get convicted or plea on that (or at least the ones DOJ puts out press releases about) generally get at least home confinement or a few months in federal prison, but he’s apparently getting a diversion program instead.

For those who are not familiar, ATF Form 4473 (the “firearms transaction record” that you fill out when you buy a gun from a firearms licensee) asks:

“Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?
Warning: The use or possession of marijuana remains unlawful under Federal law regardless of whether it has been legalized or decriminalized for medicinal or recreational purposes in the state where you reside.”

This stems from him answering “no” when he was an active user of crack cocaine.

10 minutes is all it took for them to try to make this about Trump. Joe Biden lied and the 51 intelligence officers were playing hardline party politics.

It’s a fine look for Biden’s gun legislation agenda.

Don’t be a baby. I was sarcastically responding to the OP article saying this would have reverberations for the 2024 election. It won’t.

    Bottom of a pint glass
Witch hunt. Weaponization of the DOJ. Political persecution of the opposing party. The other party did it too.

    What'd I miss?

cool, so authorities investigated, charged him with crimes they think they have evidence to prosecute him for, and got him to admit his guilt and take a deal. sounds like justice in action.

maybe the collective political right will stop crying about him now.
"but but what about hunter?!" investigated, charged, convicted.
that's the way it's supposed to work.
