Now that Walter has ascended to a CONSENSUS First Team All American, I would like to extend a giant mea culpa on behalf of myself and all the other doubters on NBN to @murphree_hall for our lack of faith in Walter's ability to run the point.

We were wrong. You were right. Walter is one of, if not THE best PG in America. He will go down as an all-time great Gator and deserves to have his jersey in the rafters, IMO (as the first and only Gator first team AA).

I'm excited about his growth into the role as well as his massive improvement on defense. Kudos to Murph for believing and to Walter for delivering!

Absolutely. His control of the offense and high assist to turover ratio surprised all (most) of us. He’s a much better player than Mark Sears IMO, had a better year and far more efficient. Let’s hope he continues this and leads us to an historic run.

i think @murphree_hall is on the paid boards. He needs to come back to his old neighborhood

Walt put in the work and really improved his handle during the off-season.

Yes. I had watched Walt’s entire career… including his games at Iona, where he was SG (Jenkins was pg).
Though I didn’t think he would be a bust, I had real concerns about how putting him on the ball might negatively affect his game.
Further, I was really concerned with marrying this idea with Martin also playing pg. I was convinced Denzel was gonna be really good… and would be the better answer.
I was half right, I guess.
And, admittedly, half wrong. Walt way better at pg than I expected.

Me, I hope Walt drops 35 (UF career high) on Pitino / St Johns, in the West, and late in the game says to Rick, yep coach, can't play no defense......scoreboard!

only if you'r e from Tampa, jack

and get 4 steals. I saw a Pitino interview last weekend and was asked about Clayton and a couple of other players that left Iona. Pitino lied about Clayton saying he offered him $1400 (I beileve was the NIL number) to stay at Iona. Liar, he tried to get him to transer to St. Johns.

He coulda got a real nice Xbox and a couple games. He coulda helped Lagaway donate to girls sports at UF. He coulda treated at least 6 people to a fancy dinner. Bought a suit. But a 1973 hooptie Yogu. He coulda bought a year pass to Disney but no toys. He could have got a mid level refrigerator. Or took none and become here and been a first team all American. Been the best in a damn hard SEC, a legendary Gator, draft status for NBA and take care of his kid. Tough choices are a part of life. Never know what that 1400 coulda turned into if properly invested tho. Think what he coulda bought but in TSLA stock right now!

I haven’t seen him in here since the season started (might be wrong) but dont bring him in now if true. Same reason I am still drinking and wearing the same clothes each game. Can’t risk the superstition!!!!

This is not an attack on you by any means but I do not see the draw on Sears. The love fest with him last year was ridiculous, same as this year. He doesn’t seem to perform up to standards against good competition. Do I think he is terrible? Absolutely not, but he is not as elite as the media says he is. And we showed that multiple times last year and this year.

lol! I’d love that, but I think they remain pretty close. Last season, I believe Pitino attended one of Walt’s games. He razzed him about defense, but otherwise very effusive in his praise.

Meh, it was a valid question before the season. Obviously everyone knew he was a great scorer, the only question was if he’d reign in the turnovers and control the game as well as Pullin.

When I looked at what we’d lost vs. what we replaced it looked good on paper to be roughly the same as last year, but you never know until you see the new guys play (and we were counting on a 2nd year jump from Haugh and Condon too).

While Clayton is no doubt the key (just as it so often seems to be senior and 5th year guards driving winning in CBB), we ended up much better than last year because Golden pretty much nailed it with the 2 new starters being monsters AND Haugh+Condon stepping up perhaps even better than most hoped even with a strong 2nd year leap. Has the guy had a recruiting bust yet? When interviewed after the last game he said he could probably play even more players and i don’t doubt it.

I assume you are answering my question about “recruiting busts”?

If so I wouldn’t quite go that far on Alexis. From what I see he can play, and his per 40 minutes #’s are solid. He just doesn’t bring the hurt on people as much as Chinyelu lol. Not sure if we can expect him back depending on who’s coming/going in this crazy nil era, but right now I’d say it’s more the embarrassment of riches that has him as our 5th big. We’ve had plenty of years (including Donovan years) a player like that might have been the 2nd or 3rd big in the rotation.
