I've got to agree. Both my daughters played multiple sports in clubs and in school. I feel like I'm pretty heavily on the inclusion side, but it can't just be about how that one person feels. There has to be an element of fairness and safety.
I guess the question becomes why is the women's net lower? 8 inches lower. There must be a reason? If the reason is men tend to taller, better jumpers and stronger, then doesn’t a biological male playing volleyball kind of circumvent that?
Yep, that’s quite the difference. “The high school volleyball net height is 7 feet, 11 5/8 inches for boys and 7 feet, 4 1/8 inches for girls.” Top 7 Things to Know About the Volleyball Net - Volleyball Net Height
The other thing to consider is - yes in NCAA womens volleyball you will get hits like this at a higher level. But quite often a hitter of that level is going to bring a double block - and the girl that got hit would be behind them defending against a dink or a tipped ball. Having said that it was a hell of a set and timed beautifully.
The transgender allegedly spiked that ball at 70 mph. Which would be an incredible velocity if the average male high school volleyball player averages 40-50 mph. The Average Speed of a Volleyball Spike From Men
I just asked the same question you did, just in a different sports context. It's a question that's extremely relevant if you're setting up a competition league. I'm not sure how relevant it is if you're dealing with whatever question is supposedly raised by pointing out the example in the OP, existing within this political environment. I would submit that just as relevant a question as net height is whether you prefer democracy or autocracy. It's a bit of a stretch, but it's about as centrally related to whatever question we're trying to answer in this thread, which apparently was a physics problem.
I don’t know how they came up with that spike being 70mph, but if it is anywhere close to true and those articles numbers are correct, it really drives home the point. It is kind of like Nolan Ryan throwing fastballs at a little league catcher.
I’m sorry, I’m not following at all. You and I must be looking at this from completely different vantage points.
There is a reason In competitive sports you can play up but not down. It’s about safety and fairness. If your size and capabilities are matched with people older, then you can play up. It’s not uncommon For a 12yo to play in the 14U division. It’s also not uncommon for larger kids to be forced to play up depending on the sport. They call 14 and under for a Reason and it’s not to be noninclusive of older kids. I say that knowing it’s stating the obvious.
What you're saying is ridiculous and ignorant. The elite male athletes are better in some sports than the elite female athletes. But there's zero evidence this transgender player is an elite athlete. There's zero evidence this transgender player is far better than her peers. I am 6'1" and a good jumper. I am also terrible at volleyball. I know because I've played co-ed volleyball with friends for fun and stunk up the court. You put me out there with those girls, and I'd embarrass myself. This idea that men are just superior because they're born men is insulting. So yes, I expect you to offer something more to demonstrate that this transgender woman is doing things other women can't than just "she was born a man, and men are superior." After all, you're trying to claim that she hit the ball in a way cisgender women can't. And I don't see any evidence of that.
Similar issue in Hawaii. The school leaders discussing safety in volleyball competition involving a transgender athlete. From 2019. “In my opinion, it’s very irresponsible for the league to place these young women, who are minors, in an elevated level of risk,” Girls volleyball coach dissents on trans inclusion: league imposing ‘elevated level of risk’ on teens - LifeSite
Yet again, what's the actual proof of these transgender athletes posing safety issues to others? Sounds an awful lot like the gay panic claims of old (and new).
