Yep - Adam Allen. I was really excited to see what he could bring to the team, but he barely got to play. Don't remember, but think he blew his knee out and had his career ended.
On the other hand I did buy a very good condition Jim "Catfish" Hunter 1966 Topps card for ten cents. I just liked him as a player. And then he got into the HOF and died. I don't recall if it was in that order. Sucks.
Adam Allen looked good in limited minutes before his injury. Big, strong guy with a perfect-form outside jumper. I think he'd have become a good player for us.
Ron "Catfish" Hunter. Now there's a bullsh*t PR name if there ever was one. His agent dreamed that up to make him sound real folksy and down-home. Which he wasn't.
It was the A's owner Charlie Finley that came up with the name. He also came up with "Blue Moon" Odom. There might be more.
I remember one game him driving really strong to the hoop. He wasn't one-dimensional. His dad was an NBA player, so he had some good roundball DNA in him.
