I ran into Wilber Marshall at a grocery store in northern Virginia once. I saw his gator hat, we started talking football and it was clear he followed it. I didn’t recognize him, was just happy to talk UF up here. I was like “ did you go to UF? And his response was “yeah, I’m Wilber Marshall” lol. Really nice and humble guy though.

Not to bring this conversation down, but did you know anyone involved in the Parkland shooting?

yeah… it was a horrific time. My son (second grade at the time) and I were in the car at the time… directly in front of the school… as it unfolded. I got out of the car to see what was going on… an officer rushed at me and said “there is a shooter! Get in your vehicle”.
I ran back, drove over the median and sped to my house. My son was asking… “did he say a shooter?”. I remember telling him, “no, he just said - oh shoot, there is a traffic jam”.
Ultimately, he would have to learn the truth and that was a tough talk.
When I got home, I told my wife to “Call Angie… something is happening at the school”. Nothing was on the news yet… as it was just unfolding. Our nephew was a student and Angie is his mom.
Within minutes… helicopters, road side triage and more police and rescue vehicles than I ever knew existed were on the scene. It literally looked like a war zone. The roads were obviously blocked off. And the shooter was on the loose.
Police began to release kids, but they had to walk miles to waiting parents. Being so close, I used my golf cart to pick up groups of kids and ride them away from the school. They looked like zombies. They were all receiving circulating images as I picked them up, and they would all suddenly cry and scream. I told them not to look at anything.
Quickly, the shooter was found nearby… having walked to Walmart. And eventually all students were released. But several parents were not reunited, and drove for hours searching and asking if anyone had seen their child. One such parent was a co-worker… who eventually learned his daughter was killed.
It was a surreal and profoundly sad time. The City has largely recovered, but the building still sits… bullet holes and boarded windows visible. It was preserved for trial purposes, but will reportedly soon be razed.
This is probably more information than you wanted, or than should be shared on this forum. But politics aside… it was a tragedy … like many others… that we should have learned from and proactively worked to prevent repeating.

I appreciate all of it aka.
You weren't just in the vicinity of Parkland, you were at ground zero of a catastrophe.
Children should not be witnessing nor hearing about other kids getting shot at school.
Crazy eff'in' world we live in today.

Once sat in front of James Jones at a high school basketball game. I was wearing Gator gear so he obliged the hello nod. As I sat down I asked "So was the catch legit", he quickly answered "You know it was."

The catch was legit. The spot of the ball when he was down...:)

This is all good for Gatorlore, but if you want to use a good one to tweak a certain fan's nose, it HAS to be a Tennessee fan and the "catch" Jabar Gaffney made. ;)

Once put in a foursome with Jack Youngblood at a HOF outing at Firestone CC. He was very entertaining. Talked about Gatorade during it's infancy and how the developers would bring this stuff to practice for the players to taste test. Initially it tasted like crap and the players hated it when these guys showed up.

I ran into Jabar probably 8 or 10 years ago at a hole in the wall mechanic shop called Macho's Transmission and Auto Repair in Orlando. He was with his father and was getting work done on his car. He was still in the league at the time. Really nice dude. Got a pic of us standing side by side.
