I have been wondering just how the 12 team playoff teams play-out. This article below explains what you need to know. https://www.ncaa.com/news/football/...ootball-playoff-will-work-teams-schedule-bids
Here is why we need a computerized strength of schedule component to the formula... No way on Earth was Liberty the 12th best team in college football last year. The problem with more teams, in a playoff format, is that crappy teams from crappy conferences want to get in. Sorry... only the very best teams should be considered to play in the playoffs to make it truly a Championship Playoff.. We need to have a fair playoffs made up of the best teams... period! Where CFP games will be played As mentioned before, the four highest-ranked conference champions will be seeded Nos. 1-4 and receive a first-round bye. Seeds 5-12 will play each other in the first round. The higher-seeded teams will play host in their first round games. Here's a breakdown of the first round matchups: No. 5 vs. No. 12 No. 6 vs. No. 11 No. 7 vs. No. 10 No. 8 vs. No. 9 New Year's Six bowl games will be introduced in the quarterfinal round. The semifinals will be played in bowls on a rotating basis while the national championship host site is determined through bids by prospective host sites.
I like the preseason rankings though they are very sketchy to me. FSU is ranked like on the top 5? Why? Because they play in the Almost College Conference. They lost their superstar QB and that is not a plug and play position in college football. The have no real competition in the ACC except for 2 or 3 real games that could be considered competitive. Here is their schedule: Georgia Tech Boston College Off Memphis California SMU Clemson Off Duke Miami North Carolina Notre Dame Off Charleston Southern Gators Look at how perfectly staggered their bye weeks are laid out for them? It's as if they told the ACC which dates they wanted to have off. I see Clemson, Miami, Notre Dame, Gators and maybe Duke as games worth a damn as far as tough games for them. That is why they are ranked in the top 5. These preseason ranking services take these schedules into account, that's why the Gators will not be on anyone's preseason top 25 or even top 30... Yeah, it pays off the be in the Almost College Conference.
No, you're right. Liberty was ranked #23 according to the final NCAA rankings they gave . . . but would JUMP teams ranked #12-#22 because Liberty is a conference champion. Anyway, you can bet there will be $$$$$ from TV involved and the rankings will be "adjusted" through some top secret algorithm to get the "right" teams playing. Maybe I'm too cynical. LOL!
If we let the crazies take control of college football, more than they already have, we will see 16 and 18 team playoffs with cut-outs so that these crappy conference champions can get their participation trophy/money... BS! That is the antithesis of a playoff.
The team has it as their goal this year and every year. As it should be. I'd be happy with top 40 this year. Which would put us above. 500. Top 20 next year. Top 10 in 2026. But even this schedule will take some fortune.
