Whelp, as crappy as all of this might feel now, only a decade or two back determining national champs was much more subjective. Objectivity and hard data was available but not often part of the 'selection' equation. Someone always got screwed, and the favs always made it in.

The NFL pros have kind of figured it out...I think.

I'm not smart enough to figure it out, but I can see with me little beady eyes something's not quite right.:rolleyes:

The method all levels of football below FBS have been doing for decades seems to have been successful. Do we really need to create something else? At the very least it could give some structure to start, and could be tweaked if necessary.

FCS has a 24 team bracket, so 8 byes. Skink won't like that too much ;).

Texas and OSU currently have best odds to win. Under original BCS, Texas wouldn’t be one of final two. OSU wouldn’t have been in the top 4 format.

So while we can complain some, let’s realize it is at least solving the controversy about the best teams getting in.

    My two tweaks
    1) get rid of the CFP committee. No need to pay them money when the last iteration of the BCS formula was perfected and mitigated human bias by having more humans in 66 percent of the formula to drown out individual human bias. The last 33 percent were computers. I loved the last iteration of BCS formula.
    2) eliminate all conference affiliated refs.

I get the bitching about the seeding and bye games and whatnot... but at the end of the day, there's not going to be any asterisk next to the winner's name after it's all said and done. If ASU ended up beating UT and then ran the table, I don't think anyone would have any issues calling them champion.

Asu beating texas would have been tge best thing so far and tgey wouldnt be in with 8. If the gators arent playing, upsets are the only consolation . We shouldve had a fg attempt for tgat to happen.

One thing I don't understand is if the college football playoff was supposed to render the regular season moot, why do the Pros do it that way? Divisional champs and some wild cards.
I think it created more interest in the regular season with like 4 or 5 teams having a case at the end to get included.

The problem now as we don't have divisions and we can't play equal schedules or have division champions to move on to the SEC championship. It makes the SEC championship kind of hard to decide who gets in. This year it worked out OK but sometimes they're gonna have to go to these crazy statistics to choose two teams The SEC championship Shirly isn't what it used to be with an east west champion.

True but the NFL doesn't have equal divisions either. Anyone want to compare the NFC north with the NFC south? Each division will get an auto bid. But it's also due to the scale. 32 teams is easier to deal with than 130.

Professional football, basketball, baseball and hocky do not use a commettee to choose championship contenders. Line up 8 conferences and formulate the selection like the NFL does to get two contenders from each conference. Get people and bias out so it's all of BCS college football. Conferences and networks are not trustworthy and have money as their only concern. It's why Disney
-SEC and Fox-Big10 continue to gobble up teams under their umbrella so they can dominate the business and get the maximum ROI. Ultimately, this madness will need to stop and have leagues go back to 8 to 10 team that alway made more sense.

My bet is that theres no appetite to recast the business. Any changes coming won't address the mess today - and I'm not talking about the players. More perfume on a skunk, favored only by the one or two business alliances making the most money.

    1. Home games until Final.
    2. Seeding 1- X (whatever this number is) based entirely on a BCS style system, with P4 conference chanp only guaranteeing a spot in the field. Note: if done correctly this would actually increase # of blowouts.
    3. A week off after CC's, then every weekend for playoffs. To hell with the bowls.

Side note: SEC looking like crap this postseason.

I like this idea, but I doubt the powers that be will reduce the teams to 8, even if it's the right thing to do.

They do however play all their division opponents home and away every year and a division winner gets a playoff spot. Much like our east and west with only two nondivision games every year. Now we play a half round robin lopsided schedule that isnt even similar to the other schools.

Unfortunately I think Ohio St is going to win it all.

I think Texas & ND are over rated and PSU is just not talented enough.

Of the 4 I would want PSU to win.
