Your last paragraph is the key. Riley needs to focus on being a 3 and D offensive player right now. If he gets open 3’s, he should take them. If the defender closes on him, he should straight-line drive to the basket with authority and finish strong. He can also get in the paint and take the short jumper. Plus, he has really good court vision that he can take advantage of. He has been doing too much one-on-one stuff outside and settling for low percentage outside shots. He should leave that for now to the Steph Curry’s and Kowacie Reeves’ of the world. Works for some; doesn’t work for others.
And I think the more Pullin and Clayton get comfortable playing with him, the more that will be the case. He can play off them as lead guys. He was also exceptionally good cutting off the ball last year, but we haven't seen that so far really. I'm excited to see how those four perimeter guys develop chemistry together now that we have Pullin on the floor.
