Seems we hVe a few who could be drafted Kugel Samuel Condon Pullin Clayton Handolton Do you see these players getting drafted or is this too many. Then you have Richard, Haugh. Have we ever been this deep? Maybe not top 10 picks but by end of second Rd. How many will be first Rd? K
Kugel? yes. The rest? TBD. You have to be stouter as a big or faster/dynamic scorer as a small to make it. The freshmen bigs are intriguing. If they can shoot the 3 with regularity then they do have a chance.
Condon looks like a future 1st round, maybe lottery pick to me. A 7 footer, already after 4 yrs of basketball with low post moves, can block shots and can shoot from 3. He's very athletic, especially for a 7 footer, and his upside seems really high to me. He has a long way to go, but he's going to be fun to watch the next couple of years. Kugel will play, but I can also see Handolton getting drafted as well. Possibly 2nd rd pick. He reminds me of a guy like Hartenstein on the Knicks. Definitely can see him getting some minutes as a backup.
realistically Kugel, maybe one of the others if they have a stellar season....but the better the team does the better their chances. At this point Kugel better start playing better if he wants to stay on the 1st round board. After hitting his first two shots, he missed his next/last 7. He has not looked like an NBA-ready player at all these last 3 games (75% of the season so far).
We've seen him play well when he's the best on the floor. And expected him to launch from there this season. Now we need to see him play well on a team of good players. I keep thinking BD would have him sitting a good bit, and focusing on defense when in the game. He was good at teaching humility when needed.
It's three games, guys. Let's not pull the "viciously turn on the guy who got lots of pre-season hype" maneuver just yet.
Richard (5) and Samuel (4) are the only two guys on the team with numbers that aren't 0,1,2, or 3. They're also the only two guys with last names that are also first names. I think everyone knows what this means, so I'll just leave it at that...
So Walter Clayton is a third guy with a last name that’s also a first name. There’s also a walk-on whose last name is Anderson.
Again, the Kugel criticism is insane. We saw Golden quickly pull him numerous times last year for various reasons, and even sit him entirely once. Only time that’s happened so far was after a tech late in a big win. But Kugel statistically has been our best on ball defender this season. He’s played a ton of minutes, helped us come back against UVA, and had a terrifically efficient first half against FSU. Yes, he’s been sloppy with the ball at times. Yes, his shot has been off and he has forced some looks in the paint. No, he isn’t playing anywhere near where he left off offensively at the end of last season. But the kid is adjusting to the lead role on an entirely new roster with a very different style of play. The lane is far more congested right now than it was when he caught fire around CC’s injury because of all the bigs we have in the paint to rebound (best OBR team in country so far). It may take a while for him to find his stride. I think people read too much into his body language and (lack of) facial expressions. Some strange idea has developed that he has a bad attitude. But I’ve never once heard that from Golden or from anyone close to the program. Related to the topic, I would also say Kugel is exactly what the NBA wants these days. He can be an elite 3 and D wing. He also has the potential to be a high level playmaker with the space in the NBA game. Long, physical, athletic, can defend multiple spots, has legit shooting range, and is explosive off the bounce. I just wish he could get rid of his strange finishing problems around the rim. Has the same issue last year. Someone that long and athletic should be able to finish stronger.
While you make good points, you lead again with "insane". Disagree on that. Reasonable points are made.
