Um, no… Do you actually have examples of this, or are ya going with a convenient narrative? Twenty years ago I was on your side with that theory. Since then I read Moneyball and paid attention. To minimize, disregard or misrepresent analytics is a fool's errand. The irony here is the poster who brought up using analytics has completely ignored it outside of railing against UFs recruiting rankings, lol.
What you’re describing isn’t an analytic problem. The people improperly using the analytic tool is the problem.
I recently started using the ignore button. Moderators no longer control trolls. And I suspect many of the trolls are sock puppets.
Oh no, Skinky wants to get stinky again. Enlighten us; what sunshine has been pumped? Any examples?!? We have posters making things up to power whine about. No comment about that, though- intersting... Is that what you like, if you’re not bellyaching then it’s all pumping sunshine?
Marconko’s January article talked about the best five starting. Today’s scrimmage will tell us some things, but we’ll have to see who’s here in the fall to make an accurate 2-deep WAG for the season.
Well, that’s dated info and almost worthless as of today. It was just Carroll’s OL roster observation ten days before spring. Almost no relivant insight on the players and roster spots. Having Lovett as a backup OT highlights the worthlessness of the article as far as things stand after twelve spring practices. For an accurate look into how the OL looks, reports from today’s scrimmage should tell us how things stand.
Dude, what a mess of a post. In a thread with so many made up negative rants about the OL, this may be the worst. There have been six OL threads on GC in the last three months, and the internet, and this what you come up with- smh If you choose to respond and decide to use the power whiners playbook, you’ll either play the victim card or double down with more BS. I just suggest you know something about the subject matter and use that knowledge honestly… Do as you wish. FYI, on Caden Jones: He enrolled in the summer session of 2023. He came in, at in and around, a sloppy 350lbs. He was on the injury report the entire season. He got healthy and worked very hard in S&C. He’s now fit, at in and around 335lbs, and has had nothing but glowing reviews for the first eleven spring practices. How he did in today’s scrimmage will be a important update on his progress. Those are the facts. Sorry if the truth isn’t negative enough for a lot of you...... (not really sorry).
Good grief, you’re questioning Sale's ability to develop linemen- really? Do you know anything about his history at all? I was 100% fair to @spike718. He made up information to complain about. That’s on him, not me. He said he uses constructive criticism, analytics and isn’t a star gazer- none of that is true. He just power whined about rankings and fabricated negative material So, again, he made stuff up to complain about. Too bad for him. For “rankings”. I asked how were the rankings for Harris and UFs guard combo in 2022 an issue for UF? The question was ignored and dismissed. So, I'll ask you and the board the question. How has Harris’s recruiting rank of #456 been an issue for UF? In 2022, UF’s guard combo of White and Torrence had the lowest recruiting ranking for any guard combo in the Power Five. How did they perform for UF? Here’s a bonus question. Going by memory here. In 2016, UF’s 3-man OL class of Brett Heggie, Jawaan Taylor and Stone Forsythe was a recruiting disaster. The worst ranked OL class in the SEC (well below Vandy’s rating). They were low to very low 3-star recruits… Wondering- just how bad did those three NFL linemen play for UF?
Great idea. The thing is, it's not just the trolls. Some good posters love the hyper negativity, too.
Forsythe was the classic example of taking advantage of the system put in place. He had the advantage of a father who knew how hard it was to get to and stick in the league. He had great measurements, but his high school highlights .made him look like he had lead shoes on. He persevered and got better and better and became a great player.
Many just have to grow into those frames. I went from 5’9” to 6’3 in nine months. Took me a couple years to regain whatever coordination I have. Took another couple years to fill it out. I was a stringbean for a while there. I lost the ability to dribble in the open court.
Donzo, no need to be snide. Here is the opening of my post, "Sometimes the analytic specialist get so lost in their numbers that the overlook the biggest factor." The keyword is Sometimes I am a betting man myself and for the most part, I do play the odds. However, there are times that people will ignore the odds and they resort to something else. In the case of my post, that something else is the Human Factor. Sometimes a coach or even the coach or the participant, will throw the analytics/odds out the window and go with their gut feeling on what will work. What is the gut feeling? Is it ESP, Intuition, Inspiration, or a Higher Power.
Guys, let's get this positive again? I watched an interview with Big Rod. He came in at 265 lbs and, in one year, he has bulked up to 305lbs. 40lbs of muscle in one year? That's some serious training!!! Kudos to Big Rod and to the S&C coach!!! Big Rod makes us all proud!!! Go Gators!!!
