Although UT (west) and its fans have entered into a new reality, bluster, arrogance and entitlement will continue to be the order of the day in Austin. For a while, anyway. Texas and her fans are who they are, and they do what they do...the same is also true of the SEC. FTR, THE SEC HAS PRODUCED FIVE DIFFERENT NC TEAMS SINCE TEXAS LAST WON IT ALL IN 2005. FOUR OF THOSE PROGRAMS HAVE WON MORE THAN ONE NC IN THAT TIMEFRAME, FOR A TOTAL OF 13 SEC NCs since the shorthorns did a damn thing. If UT conquers the SEC, it won't be by running their mouths or disrespecting the most successful conference in the history of CFB. They're going to have to win more games than they have in almost two decades to even make a dent. My advice is talk less, play better.

Our game against Texas in Texas will be insane.. I wonder if the natives are nice to the opposing team fans?

Here's hoping the Gators can give them reason to be a little snarky that day. GG! Beat Miami!

Yep, if both teams have something to play for that means that Gators have done well in the previous games, and that's great news for all Gator football fans.

Here's to our game having real implications and meaning when we play Texas near the end of the year. Implications not of simply having a winning season but of getting into a better bowl game type implications.

Texas is loaded especially at the QB position and it sure would be nice to see our relief QB get in that game and play some meaningful snaps... in his home state of Texas.

Cheers. The key for the Gators IMO is building on the successes that do occur as the season goes on. There's no point in rehashing the instances in which we appeared to be close to turning a corner during the last two seasons - only to trip over our own feet because we didn't have the horses, the maturity or the game day poise to get it done. The worm appears to be turning just a bit. I believe the roster is significantly deeper and more talented/experienced than last year, and that it's time for results on the field to reflect that fact. Fortunately, the recent history of mind-numbing inconsistency should abate in the presence of better coaching in certain key areas, several well-regarded portal additions in key spots, and more overall experience across the board. I don't really expect the Gators to go out and humble the horns this year, due to the relative state of the two programs in this moment. I do believe we could though, (ask the Japanese Empire about the dangers of underestimating your enemies) and there are no words to express the joy I would take in seeing it happen. GG! Beat Miami!

A note to the disconsolate among us: A reasonable degree of cautious optimism is not automatically folly nor is it a thought crime. On a personal level, I generally refuse to wallow in misery on a reflexive basis because it serves no legitimate purpose. I also don't seem to enjoy it as much as some Gator fans seem to.

It would be epic if Lagway was put in for mop up duty. I’m not too concerned about bowls unless we somehow get in the playoff. All the top players sit and the game is tainted win or lose for the top programs. The minor bowls are still meaningful for teams that have no aspirations of championships but the last teams left out are in letdown mode.

That is true for some fans and even some players... But some of us purists love college football... Gator football. But if we simply get into some barely made it bowl game it's harder for me to get excited for that because several players would quit the team and not play in it.

The last couple new years bowls we got into which are the best bowls besides playoffs, our players sat out and we got clobbered. Nobody is interested in that. , not even you.

It is harder to get into a bowl game when players quit on the team, yes.

They are much nicer than SEC rivals, but I'm sure that will change over the next few years.

Fair assessment, but I personally would prefer all the practices this young team can get, especially for the young guys. About putting Lagway in to mop up in a win at Texas: That would be a gloat for the ages. I would be completely insufferable, for days on end. Hell, I might never stop.

You're probably right about the fans changing for the worse. "It just means more." Lol...

And it happens 100% of the time unless it’s a playoff. We should just move on to the next year if we can’t be in the top 12 or figure out how to motivate teams to make legit effort. Cash is probably the only way.

Or... find a way to get the players to actually play in these games. But we've discussed that here and no one has yet to come up with a reasonable way to accomplish that. So, I will enjoy the games a we play in season like all the rest of Gator Nation.

    Go Gators! Beat everyone...

Yes, for meaningless bowl games we should probably just sit all the starters and let the youngsters gain practice reps and experience, while protecting our huge investment in the starters. College is a different game now.

I think the solution is quite simple--tie their NIL money to the Bowl Games?

The last time UF/UT played each other was 1940, so I think this game will feel like a Bowl Game.
