In the SWAC sense of the word, like, we only “count” the games that we win?

So are you claiming that Miami just out talented us? If so, make an appointment with an optometrist immediately but secondarily why are we getting hugely out talented by a team that replaced its coach at the same time we did?

There's simply no coherent way to construe that performance as anything other than a massive failure of coaching.

What if - it takes a few games for new staff, new terminology, new lineups and communication gaps - to improve. We got a TON of new coaches, new players, still figuring out Mertz /Lag dynamic, not 100% sure Mertz has fully recovered and then gets injured again … what if it just took a few games to gel and we start looking good later ?
I still think the issues with oline, pass rush and playcalling are all there and that’s a real problem but I am holding out hope we look better

of course a small part of me hopes it falls apart and we get Kiffen /keep Lags

He hasn’t won a sec championship or even a big game yet. They got crushed by Georgia last year.

All must win until we reach the Tennessee game

This is my conclusion: we are a very talented team, but we consistently underperform. For some reason, the coaching staff has done very well at recruiting some highly skilled players, but mostly recruited developmental players on the OL. In the TP, we haven't done any better. As Shane Matthews said, "This is a very bad team." It begs the question, why? It flat-out falls back on coaching. In year three, we should be seeing an improvement on both sides of the ball, and we are not seeing it.

Yes, we should have looked competitive; instead, we were embarrassed on our home field!

I don’t think a coach can make the right side of that oline good. I don’t think a coach can create an elite pass rusher from the guys we have. Coaching may be bad but we are missing talent at key positions. We can’t protect our qb and we can’t get to the other teams either.

And with our consistent record, I doubt we can attract elite talent. There were recruits who said they wanted to see improvement and it's not happening!

In my opinion Coach Napier has to win all the games he reasonably can win… that includes Texas A&M, and also Miss. St., Kentucky, LSU, FSU, and quite possibly Ole Miss (depending on how their season goes).
Lose any of those and I don’t think he survives, unless he wins one of Tennessee,Texas, or Georgia.
I also don’t believe it matters much what any of us ordinary folks think about the correctness of such a decision, some might say non-decision. Honestly I don’t think even those involved with the call will particularly love that scenario , including Billy, but…

Coaching is a different issue. If the games were called better and the kids thought all we need is talent in a few areas, they would see early playtime with an elite coach and qb. Nobody sees that.

He already has the best OC based on his vision of the team.
Look at how his offense was at ULL, that’s will tell you all you need to know.

This to me. Still showing glaring issues at how many position groups? Indicates to me that we do not have a quality staff and accountability. Simple competency.

I agree. If he keeps his job I think the big money forces an OL coaching change and an OC on him. However, we need to see if he keeps his job.

Let’s step and remember that Miami was almost exactly in the same situation we were in three years ago, except we had more resources. Look at the results, and more importantly the expectations, of their coach in year 3 vs. ours in year 3.

That's a disaster either way. If he's forced to hire coaches that he doesn't want, it'll be like driving an AMC Gremlin made out of parts from other vehicles. If he stays snd keeps his guys, it's still just a Gremlin.

If admin has to force a coach to make changes, he is not Head Coach material. Being paid to make tough decisions is in the job description.
