I mean, of course we have some Napier players who have trickled into the NFL.. We are the flagship university of the most talent-rich state in the country. We're going to get kids that are NFL bound regardless of Napier. I don't think anybody is going to argue here that Napier has his boys in as good of shape as Meyer did and it takes months to get to a certain level of conditioning, if not years.
You bet. Good back and forths and fun and informative. I really appreciate well intentioned disagreement and have often had better thoughts for it. It's so easy to be reflexively dismissive if not insulting toward differing opinions here and I'm always glad for for the chance to talk through something in mutual good faith. I believe you might be a True Gator indeed!
They aren’t responding well to the soft approach clearly. There are still some tough coaches around that are killing it. The reality is there is more than one mold to being a great football coach. At the end of the day you either are or you aren’t
Florida shouldn’t consistently accept being in the bottom half of the SEC. We actually have an argument that we are the worst team in the league. I think we land 11-12th, but that’s not acceptable in year 3
It’s above our pay grade to determine the right move and when. But you can’t dismiss the negatives of holding a coach that has lost everyone. Donors dry up attendance goes down Booes and brown bags are everywhere Awful media and press Shitty recruiting Those are real costs to the university and the football program. It’s not just a temporary boost in morale Obviously the sooner you fire the sooner you can start working with Sexton but let’s see if he goes 3-0 vs this next part of the schedule. He needs to
We need more future nfl linemen. Whether they’re coached properly is an entirely different issue. I think our talent on the oline is completely subpar and no amount of coaching can change that . If we had 8 ocyrus’ maybe we think our coach is great at his job.
I thought your earlier comment was spot on about taking linemen from the portal who then don't crack the starting lineup. Regardless of on-field coaching, the evaluation process (ugh, there's that word again) is the real subpar element.
You don’t think there are real costs to fan and donor apathy and anger? You make it seem like this anti Napier movement is some made up Gator Country conspiracy. He’s tied for the most likely to get fired next in the betting markets. Its a national story
Is it evaluation or money. Were our coaches forced to bargain shop for oline in both recruiting and in the portal. It sure seems that way to me. We’ve taken very highly ranked players in many positions so it’s not just because we are losing. To me, it has to be money or we would have had a few take the bag. We got Lagway and I’m sure he got a rally nice bag comparable to what else was being offered. I think we neglected the line financially.
I guess I'm piling on, but the best thing Napier can do to save his job is to follow through on his own stated principles. We're going to be disciplined and detailed oriented? Show it. We're going to be tough and aggressive? Show it. We're going to be a problem for other teams to scheme against? Show it. We're going to have top notch S&C, nutrition, player development? Show it. We're going to have an army of assistants and analysts to scrutinize and continually improve everyone and everything? Show it. We're going to thoroughly, rigorously, and scientifically evaluate every prospect to ensure the greatest likelihood of positional fitness and overall team success? Show it. All the right things have been said. Have they been done? I don't know, but the results on the field haven't been encouraging.
I would not be surprised if some improvement could be made just by a HC with some spirit, demanding, motivating, vocal about winning.
