Brother, I’m just telling you what will happen, not what should happen. If Napier wins seven games (which would be nothing short of a football miracle), then he’s staying. No point in arguing otherwise.
I get your point he hasn’t won a conference or natty. How many coaches have a better resume than Kiffin? Meyer, Kirby, DeBoer, Kelly, Day, Riley, Lanning, Dabo? Meyer is possible. Dabo is washed. The rest really aren’t possible. So you go to the next tier.
No - Kiffin is more proven and accomplished than Napier at this point. But that’s a pretty low bar, would you agree?
Yes, I do. But my point was in response to someone who argued that Kiffin wouldn’t come here because we were not even paying Napier as much as Kiffin. Of course, Kiffin gets paid more (and we would have to pay him even more than that). He has performed better with fewer resources.
He’s more proven but on the level of Mullen. I believe he’s much better than Mullen but only my opinion. Bama hired a guy straight out of the playoffs. That’s the difference in our programs.
Napier will keep his job based on 2 things... 1. He needs to show enough success and fight on the field - Needs to probably win 6 games and not get blown out in the losses. 2. The coaching market. I dont think we abandon ship unless we have a BIG time name ready to take the job. I think if Kiffin gives an agreement before we pull the plug... then Billy is toast. No way we try to find another "up and coming" type coach. Has to be a legit hire. I think he is running a clean program and everyone speaks highly of him. I think he his making an effort to be a modern CFB coach in regards to NIL and recruiting. The only thing that is really hurting his tenure is the results on the field. Napier can win 6 games and keep his job, he just needs to sell us on some hope. Play DJ... put up a fight in every game.... make a nice coaching hire in the offseason or something. Just give us a glimpse that there is better to come. I dont think the program was in a place that was ready for success when BN took over honestly. I cant say he is the best fit, but I feel like everything is lined up now for success more so than it was under Mullen.
I don’t get your point. What’s the alternative? If we can’t get tier 1 we go to tier 2. Keeping Napier is a nonstarter I hope to God we can acquire a Tier 1 coach. I think we’d all love that. But it’s worth keeping Napier if we can’t get deep on the list. Someone like Chadwell is a better pick at this point
Chadwell “ might” be a better option. Very similar to our last four coaches though in accomplishments. It’s worth a shot though at this point.
I disagree. If we cannot get a proven coach at the P4 level (I think we can), then we might as well keep suffering through Napier for another year, get that buyout down, and reduce the talk about UF not giving coaches a fair shot. I don’t think I can stomach another coaching hire where I have to go “Who?!” after they make the announcement.
And prior to that they backed up a Brinks truck to the doorstep of a former NC winning coach and made him an offer nobody could refuse and then provided the ability to offer any inducement to get any of the players that he needed. It isn't rocket science, is it?
Can Billy save his job? In theory, sure he can. But will he? Unfortunately, I don't believe he will. The writing is on the wall. I really thought Billy would be successful here, but we're in year three now and it just isn't working. I don't think he's capable of turning this around and competing in the SEC. Priority #1 should be doing whatever it takes to get Lane Kiffin. Priority #2, actually let's call it 1b, should be doing whatever it takes to keep Lagway.
I don’t see BN winning 6 games this season, for months I laughed at Las Vegas’ 4.5 winning games prediction but now I believe that’s a right call.
No, that’s the wrong call. I don’t know what our final regular season record will be this year. The spectrum is anywhere from 11-1 to 1-11, but whatever it is, I categorically would bet my house that it is not 4.5-7.5.
