As was Miami? Let's go look at the prediction thread...

    Wow that’s a reach.

One thing Uf has done the last 2 years is play to the level of the competition.

    That’s a coaching/preparation issue.

I’ll bet we don’t sniff 9 wins this year sadly.

Where do you rank him as a college coach . Ahead and behind who. He’s like DJ, huge upside and i believe it but he has to prove it.

Ole Miss was 11-2 last year ( lost to Bama and Ga, beat every body else) including a bowl win over Penn st, their best record in about 60 years is all I'm saying . :)

That’s great for ole miss but just like horse teeth getting boatraced in the sec cha. Just not really all that close. I’m glad they took those stupid banners down.

I'll take "horse teeth" over where we r now. Napier and his fans would love one of those banners about now.

Miami loss was incredibly disappointing and confirming of our bad hire at the same time. Gator fans here rag on the Cristobal hiring, but sadly the canes get the laugh. Year 3 and they are far ahead of us and there are only a couple of teams I dislike more.

Give half of his salary under the table to Scott Stricklin.

Stricklin: This will save your job at least to the end of the season.

Napier: No problem. Have you seen my buyout?

I don’t want any of our loser coaches even a little bit.

I don’t think we win 9. I said 8 or 9 is the requirement for him to save his job. I think we win 4 or 5. Even if we somehow win 7 he should be fired. That’s very mediocre given our schedule now

Miami was ranked in the top 25 and that is still where they are.

People were originally saying 6 or 7 wins was a solid season that bought Napier another year.

The schedule is objectively easier. No team is currently better than their original rank. Three teams are objectively worse. FSU for example is much much much worse.

Unfortunately, if he wins 5+ games they will drag this out another year.

With the remaining schedule I have a hard time getting to four wins, not to mention the plethora of utter beat downs coming from GA, Tx, Ole Miss, and Tenn and the melt downs on here that will follow.

The possible path to 4 wins, which would also be the possible path to 5 wins:
UK, UCF and then pick between MSU and f$u.

We will probably win 3 total

I read your post and find myself agreeing… in the micro and macro. In the micro, I wonder if he can right the ship (DJ magic) to make me think…. Maybe?

But I cannot get over the macro. Same scheme regardless of the personnel or opponent. D coordinators talking about the predictability of our offense (and me, a dumb average fan, calling our plays beforehand and wondering why with our WR spead we don’t try spreading the field with slants, crosses and a more air raid approach). I see our D struggle well beneath the average+ talent we have. Tough to get the taste out as you say.

I’d love to tell you that was realistic, but neither seven wins nor Napier getting fired if he wins seven falls into that category.

Napier has to win two of Pennsylvania, Georgia or Arizona … sorry, wrong thread.

Silly question. Compared to, say, Dan Mullen. Our first HC out of a Mississippi SEC team, what makes you think another will do that much better? Both are good offensive minds but beyond that, neither has won squat

Didn’t Mullen have miss st ranked maybe #2 before going to Bama and getting smoked? There’s a big difference is looking like a solid maybe and getting over the hump and actually beating national contenders.

Yep - I responded to a post suggesting Kiffen was a “proven and accomplished” coach — saying Kiffen hasn’t really proven or accomplished much. I still stand by that opinion. Funny - I just went back and reviewed Mullen’s record at MSU - his record there wasn’t all that compelling. Bad hire

  18. In today’s college football I think the head coach’s job is now even less dependent upon winning 8+ games or making bowl games. FBS football, especially in the SEC is all about money for NIL, fancy stadiums, etc. Stricklin might be able to save Napier’s job by hiring an NFL-like general manager for football (preferably one with ties to the NFL), politely asking Napier to hire a big name offensive coordinator, and having Napier focus on winning games rather than balancing head coach, offensive coordinator, roster management, and head recruiter duties. All that is predicated upon Napier actually being a good enough head coach to win 10 games next year—and surviving this year.

Fans and boosters alike appear to be at “that point” with Napier not just because of the loss to Miami, but the way the team looked lifeless and completely unprepared for an ACC opponent, much less the SEC schedule. Napier must beat Texas A&M just to but some supporters or else he might not make it to the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. Come to think of it, I am not sure there is a path short of a miracle turnaround that saves his job. At some point the boosters might magically find the buyout money and the cash for the next coach.

If we win 7 and keep him then we waste DJ Lagway. 2025 would be a bust (since Napier isn’t a good coach) and we either run it back in 26 or finally get a new coach. Then Lagway is gone.

Actually, I think what I wrote was a more proven and accomplished coach. The context was a comparison of Napier’s contract to Kiffin’s and why Kiffin’s contract was more lucrative presently. Would you care to argue against my point that Kiffin is more proven and accomplished than Napier, or do we want to let that one go?
