They had the same record as us last year and finished below us in the SEC standings (they lost to us). Did they just kill it in the portal? Do they have a better coaching staff?

I can't tell if this is bait, but Drinkwitz gave up play calling and hired a good OC to focus on head coach duties.

Well, some will tell you it’s because Drinkwitz finally got an OC, but I think it’s because of the continuity as he’s in year 4 of his tenure.

"Kirby Moore is in Columbia, recently being hired as the Mizzou offensive coordinator. He is expected to take over play-calling duties after head coach Eli Drinkwitz decided to move off the job. Drinkwitz blamed himself for the team’s offensive struggles last season and decided somebody new was needed in the program."
Eli Drinkwitz explains how he will remain involved after giving up play-calling duties

Not to mention that Mizzou hasn't been a bottom feeder most years. Plays against the myth that OOC programs would crash and burn in the SEC. Ditto with Texas A&M. They aren't world beaters here, but they weren't world beaters in the Big XII, either...

I know basically nothing about Mizzou, but looking at their depth chart, which may or may not even be accurate, I see a ton of seniors and graduate transfers. So while they may not have elite prep talent, though St Louis does produce high level players, they may really be benefiting by having a lot of physicality mature 22-23 year olds.

Well they have a linebacker there who probably would be a difference maker here.

Drinksalot made a great hire. New OC Kirby Moore is a big reason why they’re much improved this season. He is the brother of Kellen Moore and both played for their father Tom, a very successful HS coach in Washington. Then played WR at Boise State for Chris Peterson.

Someone must be blocking for the walk-on. I doubt his #'s would be any better than Etienne and Johnson running behind our OL.

They hired the coach who won the 2019 Sunbelt Championship game instead of the one who lost?

Brady Cook is an elite QB and they have excellent line play on both the offense and defensive side of the ball.
