Not the ally they want but certainly an ally. There are are a myriad of interrelated defense arrangements, including basing an equipment maintenance. Far too many to detail. But this conversation is futile. We are just speaking about very different things.

I asked for how Saudi Arabia had previously inserted itself in our partisan politics prior to Trump. You did not answer that question. I asked for specifics of how they did that. You provided none. And I have no idea what an article from 2021 provides in terms of evidence to answer that question.

I'll agree we are not the ally they want and as long they can play the relationship to their best interest that is what they will do. As I stated in my earlier post the suggestions I made were over the top. It's a fine line we walk.

That said the Saudi's did attempt to cover up the assassination. No question on that front. In the end the Saudi's tried 11 people that were responsible for the assassination. Three acquitted, five sentenced to death and three sentenced to prison terms. the latter were legally pardoned in May 2020 by Khashoggi's children.

Is it the justice American's wanted? Possibly not. It certainly wasn't what the UN wanted. That said cover ups are prevalent and the US is no exception. Trying to clean up egg on your face is a different matter. Fact is trust is lost and gaining trust once that happens is an act in futility.

Then I mistook the question as it is the US who has inserted ourselves into the Saudi Arabian affairs. No matter how we look at it the US had been involved with Saudia Arabia for decades politically and militarily.

This sounds just like what Trump said when he was defending Putin's murders.

more coming to light,,,but look, over there, Hunter is hitting it again...

Kushner straight up sold out to Saudi's while in office and cashed the check shortly after the election. Even the panel of KSA advisors recommended against investing with Kushner and MBS overruled them giving Kushner $2.5B to play with, and get management fees from, in exchange for his service.

And rather than declare the source of the investment as a sovereign wealth fund, they labeled it as a group of pooled investors which appears to be a massive loophole allowing multiple foreign entities to funnel money into the US market avoiding normal disclosure rules associated with foreign gubmnts.

Jared Kushner's private equity firm concealed the origins of Saudi-backed funds and used the SEC's own rules to help them do it, report says (msn.com)

The New York Times reported in April 2022 that Kushner — who worked on Middle East policy under former President Donald Trump — was able to secure over $2.5 billion in funds for his company Affinity Partners. The largest share of money came from the $620 billion Public Investment Fund led by MBS, who personally overstepped recommendations by a Saudi panel advising him against investing in the firm, the Times reported. In 2018, MBS reportedly bragged that Kushner was "in his pocket."
    ..........................
According to the Post, on a copy of Kushner's Form ADV, an SEC form to register investment ventures, Kushner also lists the client of the $2.5 billion in funds under "Pooled investment vehicles as clients" rather than under "Sovereign wealth funds and foreign official institutions." Chad Mizelle, an adviser to Kushner's company, told the Post in a statement that this was the correct designation, while the SEC declined to comment.
    .................
Currently, the SEC and the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, an enforcement branch of the US Treasury, do not require investment advisers to report or verify the identities of investors or maintain programs that would deter money laundering schemes, according to a letter to the Treasury Department sent by Democratic Senators in the wake of Russian oligarchs using US investment firms to hide their financial activities.

According to a leaked memo from the FBI in 2020, "threat actors likely use private placement of funds, including investments offered by hedge funds and private equity firms, to launder money." Sen. Ron Wyden, the chair of the Senate Finance Committee, told the Post that the concealment of Kushner's money sources raised "very serious issues" about his financial ventures. "Following the money is the premier issue," Wyden told the Post. "That's how you understand potential conflicts of interest."

All former politicians cash in after leaving office. Clintons and Obamas became multimillionaires after leaving office. Senators and congressmen do it too.
I'm not sure about the Bushes, as they were pretty rich going in like Trump. But I imagine they did too.

There is a difference between book deals and speaking fees and cashing in on a relationship with an authoritarian foreign government developed while in office.

After helping prince’s rise, Trump and Kushner benefit from Saudi funds

99% of his $3B fund is from foreign investors...look, over there..Hunter dick pick

"I've never seen anything like it": Economic analyst stunned at sources of Jared Kushner's funds (msn.com)

Economic analyst Steven Rattner on Monday shared a pie chart showing that all but 1% of the $3 billion in investments in former President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner's private equity firm Affinity Partners came from foreign sources after he "spent much of his White House tenure cozying up" to Saudi Arabia and Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman. The Saudis invested $2 billion in Kushner's fund while the United Arab Emirates and Qatar each added another $200 million. About $625 million came from other non-U.S. sources while only $31 million came from sources inside the U.S. Rattner told MSNBC that he's "never seen this" in 40 years in the business.

"I've never seen somebody get two-thirds of their money from a single investor. Usually a single investor might be a few percent of the fund, might be 5 percent, occasionally 10 percent," he said. While Kushner has hired some people for his fund, "I've seen nothing else about what he's actually done with the money," Rattner continued.

"It is normal to invest this money over a period of several years, so I don't think we can draw a firm conclusion yet. But, again, we're going back to a guy who's a real estate guy, and frankly, not a particularly good one at that, who's suddenly got $3 billion trying to do private equity deals competing against people who've been in this business for a long time. And I wouldn't, if I were the Saudis, count on making a lot of money from this any time soon," he said, adding: "U.S. private equity firms still raise the vast bulk of their money from U.S. investors. This is extraordinary — unprecedented — I've never seen anything like it."

That's the difference between an oligarch like Trump and a simpleton like Creepy Joe. Trump says sure, you want access? That'll be two billion. But... hold your cash for a few years and give it to Jared. Wait until ...eh... 2022. Whereas "the big guy" is like "hot damn $10 million!!! yeye!!!! we'll set up some shell corps and tell them to wire those funds today! I'm gettin a car!!!"
