I think there were other plays... just not on such a huge stage like the play in question. He had at last enough for people to call into question his game day coaching acumen.

Who says anything about happiness? Of course we want more, but expectations, as opposed to hopes, must be tempered by reality.

True. But does that mean losing seasons should be normalized, like at Vandy?

YOU’RE (typed that by hand, so no text to type errors there…) getting an inordinate amount of play out of this…
Are you saving this for your stand-up routine at the amateur comedy club:rolleyes:

Not in the least. Vandy is a small private school that doesn't prioritize athletics. Frankly, they shouldn't be in the SEC.

That said, our legacy of greatness wad built long ago, and with a couple of strong seasons, we have struggled for 14 years. We should never acquiesce, but should also realize our place in the corporation (funny how that term seems more apt than before) and recognize the challenges we face, particularly in 2024...

Late to the thread, and probably already said, but winning will help us...

That's not really true. We've had three 10+ win seasons in the past 10 years. And a 9 win season to boot. 10+ wins in this conference is perfectly fine by me. I don't expect a playoff berth each year, but those seasons either would have gotten us there or close. And that's about all you can ask for.

You're re-writing history. I suppose 11 wins and taking Bama down to the wire in the SECCG just a few short years ago is "struggling" in your eyes. We would have been a playoff team that year under the current format. Conflating that with what we are seeing now is utterly ridiculous.

It is, but since 2010, Florida has been a mid-level program. Mizzou also had three seasons of greater than 10 wins since joining the SEC. When they joined, did Gator Nation think they were even a threat, let alone as good as we are? We cannot measure program by our best years, but all years.

Yes, five win seasons are unacceptable, but if our opponents are as good as advertised, it may again happen. This is an unusually difficult schedule for us unless they are not as good as advertised AND we are better than advertised. At this stage, there cannot be expectation, otherwise, Billy and his staff are being set up for failure.

I've seen this pattern of dashed expectations, fingerprinting, followed by the breaking out of tar and feathers going back to the 70s. It's the same with most major programs...

Finishing SEC East champions is not a "mid-level program." Going to P6 bowls is not a "mid-level program." What we have today... now that is a "mid-level program."

No, what we have the last three years is lower than mid-level. See edits.

Sure, I guess. Much of that will depend on what we see in year #3 of Napier. But for now, gone are the days of us contending for the blue chip prospects and surefire NFL studs to be. Florida still has the resources to be an elite program. If we had hired Chip Kelly, we'd probably be meandering around 8 or 9 wins per season. Maybe not where we want to crest, but much closer than losing to Arkansas at home and losing to Kentucky multiple times after beating them for 30+ years straight.

As painful as it is to say there were very few positions on the field which looked like they got better all year (or the prior year). Like it or not a good portion of that is coaching. Trick plays...freaking disaster most of the last two years. Special teams...disaster despite Billy calling it very good it freaking wasnt. Coaching hires...questionable at best so far. Use of critical last two minutes of most halves is pathetic. Feel for the game and dead turtle ball when you go up 3 points...ugggh.

Billy has a very deep deep hole to dig out of and unfortunately some of our most talented players have left and pointed fingers directly at coaching. Im hopeful we turn the corner this year and really like Napier as a person but he has a big hole to dig out of and a very short leash if he loses to the Canes at home. Too many losses in a row dating back to last year. Its not just my opinion now it is Vegas' opinion since Napier is currently has the highest odds in all NCAAF of being the first coach fired this year. As another kick in the pills Etienne now is listed as the #4 most likely to win the Doak Walker award for the nations top RB (which is interesting since he left because he couldnt get more than 10 carries a game last year but now is lead back in a stacked Georgia backfield). We better come out this season with our asses absolutely lit on fire and ready to turn this crap around...the time for excuses is over.
