I'm not qualified to address the military analysis. But the author's anti-American sentiments and great fondness of Putin make me question whether he's cheerleading or trying to be objective. A few snippets from his article last year.

The Tao of Vladimir Putin | Dissident Voice

    ***

Vladimir Putin has won one of the amazing strategic military victories in history.

    ***

Russian intelligence gave prior warning of the Ukraine’s nuclear intentions as well as the existence of biolabs possibly developing pathogens tuned to specific DNA sets, which could, in theory, result in bioweapons targeting certain ethnic groups. The punitive sanctions against both Russia and China amounting to economic war and increasing bellicosity signified that the US wanted to takeover where Hitler and Japan had left off, the domination of Eurasia, even without slave camps and mass murder.

    ***

With sanctions, Russia doesn’t have the money to waste and it puts the needs of its people first.

    ***

Of course, Russia lost men and about 200 tanks that first week but saved lives in subsequent weeks. Since that devastating first punch, Russia has lost very few tanks, moving more slowly, using laser detectors, UAVS, satellite imagery and human intelligence to prevent sneak attacks. The UAF has not been able to mount a single successful counterattack and the government will likely soon abandon Kiev.

Yes, I do ascribe credibility to sources that are not shot-through with prior hatred for Russians. They’re not hard to find. But you’re not going to find them on your Yahoo home page.

Sinophile - a person who doesn’t hate China and regards it as a mortal enemy.

Article must have been written by some Sinophile ...

If a large-scale war broke out with China, within about one week the United States would run out of so-called long-range anti-ship missiles, a vital weapon in any engagement with China, according to a series of war-game exercises conducted by the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a Washington-based think tank.

I enjoy learning about dissenting views and wasn't criticizing you for posting it. I've listened to the Useful Idiots podcast, for example. They don't so much praise Putin as think we are being reckless and risk escalation, etc. I believe I was down voted on here once for questioning whether regime change is a good idea and saying Putin's replacement might be worse. I have zero animosity toward the Russian people, or the people of China for that matter.

His dislike for the United States doesn't mean his views should be disregarded. I do think he comes across as over the top praising Putin credit for "one of the amazing strategic military victories in history," comparing him to Bruce Lee, and making sure to include a picture of Putin with his dog. I'm also not sure his prediction about Kiev panned out. All of this seems relevant to whether he's even attempting to be objective.

If that is your definition, then you’re doing it wrong. You’re coming across as having an agenda or sharing propaganda. Maybe you struggle with gray? I think there is room for something other than a black and white approach to the China issue. And yes there is an issue.

Why do you rush to assume that I have an agenda ? Why not assume that, in an admittedly gray world, the US is black and white the most belligerent regime on the planet ?

It's not a rush, but an opinion based on your posting history on several topics. I think you have less an agenda about China and more of an agenda to get attention via contrarianism. It wouldn't shock me if you told me you were an Enneagram 4. But post away King Contrary Man.

Or maybe I just don’t drink the kool-aid ? Imagine living in a neighborhood which HOA is run like US foreign policy. They’d have cops ringing your yard on the off chance you might cross the street ...

Now if you want me to go gray, don’t get me started on how China ginned up fear of ‘Covid’ and brought the world to its knees.

China is a nation of humanitarians: it has a "red zone" on the border with North Korea where they welcome immigrants from the poor country and tend to their needs . . . by raping them.

What people don't know about China is that it is a fairly lawless and unregulated country, until someone decides to do something that questions or embarrasses the ruling party. They do not have the ability to do both, and keeping the ruling party in power is the prime directive. The internet is tightly controlled because freedom of information is a direct threat to the party. The city streets are tightly controlled (with more cameras per square mile than any other country) because they cannot allow protests of any kind. There is pollution in every major city, because the government can't control it. There are barbaric practices in the outer regions of China, because the federal government cannot control it. International news is the only thing that can bring enough embarrassment on the party to persuade them to change an abusive situation, and sometimes they ignore or suppress the news because the atrocity (like with the Uighyurs) is intentional to suppress desires for independence.

China's defenders are willing to overlook these things in their support of a government that does not represent the people. The Chinese people deserve better.
