NIL is capitalism. X pays Y for their service. Example: the collective pays AR money to show up for autograph sessions, meet and greets and to promote collective events. No different then Gatorade paying athletes to do commercials.
It has zero to do with the university but the university probably now pays the athletes for jersey sales.

NFL gets a salary cap because it's negotiated with the player's union and agreed upon in the collective bargaining agreement. Something that doesn't exist in college.

These 3 parties collect money or fees from the public to belong to the collective. They most likely keep a percentage.

As far as HS kids getting NIL, why not? No different then working a job. Anyone, no matter their age, in this country should be able to make money on their name, image and likeness.

NIL is only worth what someone is willing to pay.

I really don’t see the difference as to how it’s been going.

If each SEC and Big Ten teams goes from $50 million to $100 million per year in TV revenue, the players will certainly demand more of the pie. Inevitable.

Of course its not. NIL is most definitely NOT supposed to be about sharing the profits that the schools make...its "supposed" to be about the schools not being able to limit individuals from making their own NIL deals with outside parties.
The NFL has a anti-trust exemption....and that salary cap was negotiated by the players union.
In the way that it was immediately bastardized by those that were cheating and intended to cheat, absolutely. Georgia coach up on the podium bragging about how well paid his players were in 2021...newsflash they always have been since buttsniffer Kirby arrived.
    Sadly very true.

And they'll get it because as we know NIL is nothing more than a shell game in moving $$ around. Pure pay for play and pay for sign. I can't wait for the squealing that will occur when all these yahoos realize they are free agents.

It really isn't like the talking heads make it sound. New sec media deal is only $19M per school until 2034. That's less than money from shared sec bowls/playoffs etc, less than ticket sales, and less than donations. Maybe 1/3 or 1/2 of all revenue covers actual FB costs and the rest covers the other sports. UAA is nonprofit.

Still, it would be great if players got half of actual profits (before donations), as it would probably be less than NIL payrolls. Unfortunately none of that limits NIL which is the main problem, and that would require strict rules and enforcement detailing what composes a sensible NIL deal. Prob a SEVERAL year job betw P2 commissioners and congress :/

They aren’t demanding as much as they are being sought out and getting offers.

There needs to be a salary cap imposed based on conference revenue.

Its not legal, its called price fixing. The conferences have ZERO to do with NIL and have zero control over it.
