Not exactly sure what he meant but unless the Republican Party amends its rules to specifically prohibit a convicted felon from running for the nomination Trump could still be the party's nominee regardless of what DOJ decides to do with him and even that wouldn't prevent him from running as a third party/independent candidate.

Not a rhetorical question- who wields the power? Conservative media is less supportive.

“During his time in the White House, Trump could count on Fox and its top hosts for near constant coverage and partisan approval.

But there have been signs of a shift away from Trump at Fox for months, and the network’s praise of DeSantis leading up to and following his dominating reelection victory has raised questions about who it might throw its weight behind in 2024.

“When Rupert Murdoch talks, people listen. So, what happens at Fox matters a lot, especially for Republican Party politics,” said Darrell West, vice president of governance studies at The Brookings Institution. “They have a direct pipeline to the base, so how they feel about Trump, how they feel about other candidates will matter a lot.”

That’s not what he meant either.

I screwed that up, I meant impeachment and conviction, just didn’t say it.

I agree Americans are ready to move on from the Jan 6th attack, even though our justice process is slow. But I don’t remember seeing dem ads with jan 6th riots. It would be easy to show a trump supporter literally beating a LEO on the ground with an American flag while others stomp and beat the LEO. But for current issues, our country is over maga candidates who openly claim our elections don’t work. And pushing this narrative is just awful for our country.

But I felt more hopeful after midterm elections. our country said enough of these maga conspiracy types. midterms historically favors the outside party and especially with our economic issues. Hopefully repubs will now push these nuts out and give us better choices. I would support a repub right of center candidate (or a rino I presume)

“Republicans made a striking decision earlier this year to nominate candidates for top statewide posts in swing states who backed overturning President Donald Trump’s loss in 2020. Most of those candidates lost in the midterm election.”

Candidates who backed overturning Trump loss are rebuffed

There is only 1 way that the Democrats can avoid losing the White House in 2024.

    Trump.

Incorrect! The economy is going to be rocking and rolling in 2024. Pubs had one shot to end democracy and the electorate said no to crazy. Unfortunately for the GOP it’s all about crazy.

Maybe, but Biden will be 82 in 2024. Before he was just a gaff machine. By 2024, with the stress of the job, I am not sure he will be capable let alone win an election against anyone who is even moderately articulate.

Remember, many of us Democrats voted "against Trump" in 2020. It is not like we were scrambling to get to the ballot box in support of Joe Biden. If it turns out to be Biden against non-Trump, many Dems will likely sit this one out and hand the White House to non-Trump.

Where we likely disagree is where DeSantis falls in that category.

DeSantis is not the same as Trump and he's not the same as Herschel Walker. If the Republicans follow DeSantis's lead, they will likely do very well in purple states at minimum.

I don't think the majority of independents or Republicans hate all of Trump. They hate his worst qualities and his worst problems, and they are tired of crazy. Republicans can engage in the culture wars and show backbone. Those are probably features rather than bugs these days, but they have to show competence first and they can't be crazy.

He may not be convicted, but he definitely did it. And in doing so, demonstrates that he is unfit to be trusted with classified material, and that "abuse of power," is a foreign concept to him.

Don’t think Biden will run. He’s taken down Trump as a threat IMO. He’ll see his job as done. Dems do need to make some leadership moves though. I’d like to see that start with Jeffries as House majority leader (if so fortunatel) or whip instead of Hoyer or Pelosi. I want to see more from Ryan and Newsom as well.

Democrats voted against Trump in 2020. If the economy is characterized by non-inflationary growth, the US is not bogged down in a foreign war and there are no major scandals involving the presidency in the next two years, voters will be voting for Biden even if he is an inarticulate gaffe-prone machine. Additionally, a Republican majority House in which characters like Jim Jordan and Marjorie Taylor Green play major roles including leading investigations of Hunter Biden, the FBI and DOJ and a possible impeachment of Joe Biden will not be doing any favors for the party's presidential nominee.

Oh I agreed RD would be formidable in the general election. Desantis won fla 60-40 and fla isn’t that red. We’ll debate/discuss desantis effectiveness as potus in other threads, but imo he would do well in the election.

For trump, there is more disdain for him now than nov/2020. Maybe indies supported him at one point, but imo not now. He lost 2020 more because people voted against him, than voting for Biden.

“Sixty-seven percent of independents said they do not want Trump to run again, while just 28% said they do.”

You are so ignorant. I don't think there's a person on this site that would be upset if our economy is rocking, no matter who's in charge a bad economy affects everybody. I'll admit we didn't win anywhere close for what I was hoping for. But the reason you lost the house, and almost the senate is because you didn't have our economy rocking, and our border in the south is out of control because of Biden and lots of people still like and support Trump.

How did the Dems almost lose the Senate??? They'll probably be +1 by mid-December. :)

Voters said no to crazy in statewide elections in moderate states. They said yes to crazy in most red states (and most red districts in blue states).

Edit - changed first word to voters
