Again it just shows that loyalty to Trump is rewarded with a kick in the ass. I get the feeling Trump relented on the Ukraine aid and gave his ok to Johnson which effectively leaves the pro Russia nutjobs out on a limb.

I feel bad for the nut jobs, who would have ever suspected Trump would turn on someone? I'm shocked!

Trump isn’t smart enough to think of all that. First part is somewhat true, but he just seems drawn to dictators for whatever reason, I think he just admires and is a bit jealous of their strength and power. He sees kindred spirits in them. Erdogan, who he let annihilate an ally, Kim Jing Un who he was happy to put on par with us, Putin etc…all while constantly decrying our allies.

interesting read on transformation of Johnson with the aid bill. Get this, he actually reviewed intel, talked to experts, listened to both sides and researched the situation in Ukraine. Instead of cowering to MTG.

“Mr. Johnson attributed his turnabout in part to the intelligence briefings he received,

Mr. Johnson said. “I think that Vladimir Putin would continue to march through Europe if he were allowed. I think he might go to the Baltics next. I think he might have a showdown with Poland or one of our NATO allies.”

Mr. Johnson was also struck by the stories he heard about the magnitude of the misery Russian forces have unleashed across the embattled nation. All of it tugged at Mr. Johnson’s sense of Christian faith.

All of a sudden, he’s realizing that the world depends on this,” Mr. McCaul said. “This is not some little political game on the floor.”

Even though the chaos caucus will hate him for it, I hope he sees that it is clearly not in the interests of the United States for Russia to conquer Ukraine (or anyone else).

The real purpose of the aid bill is to prevent the collapse of Ukraine before the November elections.

I am sure that is what was driving Mike Johnson's decisions in the House.

Anyone consider it ironic that scores of billions were awarded to Neo-Nazis on Hitler’s Birthday ?

That aid to Ukraine is in the form of weapons and munitions. It's not a " money laundering scheme" where a bunch of money is sent to Zelensky; it's jobs for Americans who manufacture the things we will be sending them. Don't believe the lies and bullshit from the russophile networks.

I agree with all that but I also think that at least since 1987 when he visited the USSR at the invitation of Russian intelligence - https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2017/11/19/trump-first-moscow-trip-215842/

Trump's first visit to Soviet Moscow in 1987 looks, with hindsight, to be part of a pattern. The dossier by the former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele asserts that the Kremlin had been cultivating Trump for “at least five years” before his stunning victory in the 2016 US presidential election. This would take us back to around 2011 or 2012.

In fact, the Soviet Union was interested in him too, three decades earlier. The top level of the Soviet diplomatic service arranged his 1987 Moscow visit. With assistance from the KGB. It took place while Kryuchkov was seeking to improve the KGB's operational techniques in one particular and sensitive area. The spy chief wanted KGB staff abroad to recruit more Americans.

After visiting Moscow, he put an ad in the NY Times saying that the US should withdraw from the world

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2019/01/15/trumps-nato-isolationism-is-least-years-old/

He has always articulated (as best as he can) a great power regional hegemon ideology. I think that is partly Russian influence, but playing upon pre-existing instincts, as most effective operations do.

Anyone find it rather bizarre that the only country led by an elected Jewish leader other than Israel is referred to as Neo-Nazi? Apparently someone lives an alternate reality.

The Neo-Nazis can’t wield an outsized influence in Ukraine because its puppet is a secular Jew trope.
