There are some sicko sentiments lurking in this thread. Transgender persons have distinct biological differences, particularly in the brain structure and in genetics from their counterparts. Persons suffering from diagnosed gender dysphoria who have undergone lengthy and painful gender reassignment are not "pretending". They did not wake up one day and decide to be a different gender.

Apparently some of you are confusing transgender persons with transvestites or drag queens. Not even close.

Transgender persons live in a world that does not broadly understand them, and is increasingly hostile.

So far, solutions on this board and elsewhere to the sports dilemma seem to be keeping all transgenders out of participation. My, my, how advanced a civilization we are!

Bottom line for all you "Christians" aka those who supposedly follow the teachings of Christ: your Lord God made all persons, thus your compassion is to be directed toward all. Do better than slamming one class of people because of your ignorance.

I don't think Jesus would be on board with someone His Father made superior biologically athletically, pretending to be something he isn't, in order to compete against women, and thereby take a place intended for a woman, then shine in the sport to diminish what other actual women accomplish, when measured against other actual women, bc the said actual biological male was ungrateful for being made a man.

But how does that become a blanket denial that transgender people actually exist? Because our great-grandparents did not have a framework for that?

"Transgender" is someone who has declared themselves to be a gender they are not, biologically. Only psychologically.

No one denies these ppl exist.

The question is, to what extent do we, as a society, dignify this artificial, psychological fiction?

I'd say the line lies well South of letting biological men compete against biological women.

(but certainly North of banning or denying them the right to do as they please with themselves, their bodies, etc).

 

Well I work with someone who recently transitioned.

 

As do I.
And it is widely recognized in the med profession that neuroscientific and gene differences do exist in transgender individuals (not an artificial psychological fiction).

 

Perhaps a link to verify which individual did what you claim. Or perhaps as usual it's completely a made up scenario. I don't follow these things closely, but never heard of anyone speak of their motivations as you claim.
